My Mean Streak

I am turning into a coin ogre! image Lately I find myself compelled to send nasty notes to moronic Ebay sellers who blatantly misrepresent their wares. I saw a barber half in Good being touted as a strong VF. Normally I leave well enough alone, but lately it has bugging me, and eating at me. Overgraded Half

Please do not write seller, I already feel bad enough for lambasting him image

Come-on, it isn't that hard. I know grading is subjective, but it gets ridiculous. For some reason lately it has been really bugging me and I feel I must respond.

Maybe I need a vacation! image

Gee, a VF-20 or better with little or no LIBERTY showing PLUS cleaned, polished and rim damage thrown in at no extra charge! Such a Baaargain I hope to never see!!!!!

If it makes you feel any better, I don't think it will sell.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

So you like Herculean, impossible tasks, huh?

Why don't you remove the sand from our beach with a pair of tweezers? Or maybe the water... with a thimble. image

  • ARCO,
I understand your angst. What fries me is when these sellers insist on putting "coins" in their username, thus implying to the general, non-collecting public, that they are in fact, dealers and certainly must know what they are talking about in their descriptions. Or possibly the type person that would buy this doesn't give a rip about grade and is just happy to get a "real old" coin for $10.00. At least he packages his junk well. (See feedback).

  • I went to a coin show last Sunday and was perusing the Barber dimes. One dealer, who was a very friendly and amiable person, had graded his 2x2's. What I consider "good" ie. no LIBERTY, he had graded as "fine". I was puzzled. He said since "fine " examples are so hard to find, the Barber series was graded with a little more leeway. All of a sudden my tubes of "LIBERTY-less" dimes are worth a small fortune!image

I've heard of a lot of dealers who think their coins deserve a bit of special credit in grading - nothing new. They're called "rip-offs".
