When thread killed, it comes off your today list!

DHeathDHeath Posts: 8,472 ✭✭✭
I just noticed the software is smart enough to remove "pulled" threads from your today list. I wasn't quick enough to tell if the post count is adjusted. Pretty good stuff. image

I was in the middle of posting to that thread and got the big error page. I went back to Open Forum and POOF, it's gone. What was that about? Is jerko gone?

What thread got killed? Did I miss something lastnight?
  • I was wondering why it was yanked. Someone asked everyone to ignore Kincoin. That was it; just ignore him. Carol even posted 2-3 posts about it because people had complained about his language.

It was a fairly benign thread, and then *poof* Anyone know why?

I started the thread about shunning Kincoin. Carol PM'ed me saying that she's going to yank it. The thread may have been benign, but in fairness to Carol, the thread really didn't belong here.

Personally, I wish she would've let the thread run at least a day before yanking...

  • Anything that is not coin related should be deleted or at least transferred over to the open forum and when it comes to kingbozo it definitely is not coin related.
  • Anything that is not coin related should be deleted or at least transferred over to the open forum xt

I think that would make this a very dull place. Surely, there is enough about coins on this forum to satisfy your needs at any given moment?
I like when members sometimes digress, and post and talk about other things. It gives a more complete picture of the people you are interacting with.
And no, I'm not talking about the troll threads. I certainly wouldn't miss them. But, all coins, nothing but the coins, 24-7 would get a little oppressive. If I felt that if I posted something that didn't relate 100% to coins it would be deleted... to be sure I would come here less often.

Ok she pulled the thread, she has that right and I probably agree with it, but what is the difference between that thread and the one currently running entitled, "whats the deal between cacheman and itsjustnotme"?
  • The difference would be time, that and no one sent that one to me.
    Should it go everyone?

    Folks,

I am loath to ask Carol to exercise her censorship powers. Too much of that may take us to a place where many forum members are yet again displeased. Thus far, I think the board admins have executed their responsibilities judiciously, and no harm has come to the boards. We still feel happy as a clam that we can voice our thoughts.

My suggestion is that we simply let that thread (about cacheman and itsjustnotme) to die a natural death. No need to kill something that appears to be dying anyway...

...........i don't think the other thread should be deleted since it seems that most of the angst has been used up, but..............what i do think is that there are a few members who need to be sat down and talked to.(my original thought was a trip to the woodshed)

they seem to always be at the center of a storm. not that me or anyone else isn't sometimes involved in a minor disagreement with other members, but if you pay attention to some of the threads and some of the posters it's obvious that certain members are here only to be disruptive. shiroh once posted about constant posting that's not edifying----i looked up the word just to make sure i knew what he meant----and his assessment was correct. it's in one of the troll threads. perhaps PM's to those members by, well carol, that might be you, would help as you did with its4real. probation seems heavy handed but is also an alternative. rules are good and neccesary for an orderly society. my kids appreciate rules cuase they know how far they can push. i feel the same. maybe we need something that new members and all of us really can understand and post by.

    Keets,

I fear that your suggestion will force Carol to treat adults like children. Even if some of us deserve to be treated as such, none of us will enjoy being treated as such. And, suppose one of us is having a very bad day and mis-steps. And, someone asks Carol to step in. If that person is having a bad day, having Carol step in and chide him like a child will only be counter-productive.

In the end, I think it significantly increases the us vs them (the board admins and their *perceived* friends) possibility.

the type of situation i'm talking about would be the one we seem to have reached with kinkoin. it's gone on for long enough. if something repeats ad nauseum for the period of time he's been playing, something should be done.

i posted within a thread some time back that the logical thing to do is for US to find restraint and not post on those threads, but for some the temptation is just to great. once the duel starts it's hard to stop.

in the case of the king, he's established a pattern and should at least be warned or we will soon have the type of situation like we had a while back with coincobbler. that one got stupid and ugly with insults hurled at carol when she had to do our dirty work and the seemingly mild mannered braddick even coming slightly unglued. some members, as is the case in general, are good at finding the right buttons to push. they do it cause they like to.

your own experience with wallstreetman could go haywire and to be honest about me, i seem to have a weak reflex with regard to anaconda and i can't quite figure it out yet. i don't know about you, but i hate my demons.

  • IrishMike - we do let some off topic threads go and I don't see the problem with that.
Sometimes you want to bring something up that's not coin related and I know most people don't want to deal with the patients..er...I mean members in the open forum. Attack threads need to stop though. I think we can all disagree without being mean.

  • It was a general observation. tell Mrs. Bear she has no worries from me.

  • I abhor censorship and hope that the forums can continue to be self-policing by prudent and thoughtful members. I don't like when things deteriorate, but unless it gets REAL nasty or illegal or brutal, then things should be left alone. I agree that "freedom of speech" doesn't always apply to private outlets like this, but in my opinion we should strive to keep that spirit alive. Freedom of speech also means freedom to ignore.

Besides, come on, admit it...it is rather entertaining at times!! Leave that thread and all of them.

    Just my two pennies.

Mrs Bear says that under no circumstances can you cuddle me.

    Bear,
There's nothing wrong with a little cuddle. I think there are a few here that would love to cuddle with you. Except me of course, my wife wouldn't go for it either. LOL

  • That is something that I haven't seen before - a deleted message post. I have seen many message posts stray off into an unrelated theme. While I don't like to stifle any voicing of opinions, there has to be a limit as to how far you will allow message posters and discussions to progress before total anarchy takes over. I think it is sort of amusing how some of the message posters act like kids throwing barbs at each other. At least it is not up to the level that the people in the chatroom that I used to inhabit would carry out their battles and play acting. In that arena, some of the situations became all too real and an emotional roller coaster.
