Bizarre coin dreams

Last night I dreamt that I got back from PCGS a Columbian half I recently bought. I figured it was at least MS-63, but it came back AU-55. I couldn't believe it and looked carefully at the coin as someone explained the reason for the grade. It turned out not to be a Columbian commemorative at all, but some medal that showed a full portrait of Columbus. It had wear on the high points and a strike-through error on the face.

This dream was weird for a number of reasons, including:
1) the fact that I rarely submit coins to PCGS for certification (as a member of the Numismatic Liberation Front, I free coins from entombment in plastic);
2) the fact that PCGS explained why they gave the grade they did (this never happens);
3) the fact that I didn't notice any of the defects before I sent it in (I'm not that incompetent);
4) the fact that I received back a slabbed Columbus Expo medal instead of a coin (PCGS only slabs Norse Medals, right?).

  • In analyzing you dream shirohniichan, I have come to the conclusion that you subconscious mind is in a state of guilt. Apparently the coin GODS have planted this dream into your head in order to generate some repentance on your part. What they want is difficult to ascertain, but usually an offering of a coin, sent to me postage paid will suffice. Further more it would seem logical to assume they want the previously mentioned offering to be a Colombian Expo Half dollar graded at least MS-63. Now don't start asking questions on how I have come to this conclusion as it is not wise to second guess the Omnipotent coin GODS!!!!!!!!

    P.S. The coin GODS requested that you also PM me for my shipping address, which I felt was very thoughtful of them really. image

    After thinking about it, I guess my dream means I don't trust the slabbing companies. The coin doesn't grade as it should, comes back looking worse than when I sent it in, and even comes back a completely different object (a medal instead of a commemorative coin). image

  • And this dream coming to you the night before Columbus Day.... It is a sign.

    I believe the spirit of Columbus himself is trying to contact you, Shiro. His message is clear: Do not buy any PCGS graded Columbian halves. Rather, buy all the DCGS 65 graded Columbians you can find at the bargain price of $600 a piece. You'll find them on eBay. Buy them all, Shiro! Columbus is beseeching you! Sell those worthless chop-marked tradedollars and get some coins with teeth. You will be happy and respected.

    You must be right, Clankeye. The one I bought has this ugly multi-colored toning on it as if someone made a bull-eye rainbow. I prefer them with the just-scrubbed, bright white look, and DCGS seems to have more of those kind.
