I took the plunge - first eBay purchase

GeomanGeoman Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭
Well, I finally decided to bid on eBay. I have been using Yahoo! Auctions for over a year, but have decided to check out eBay because it seems that is the site of choice. I did a little sniping, and won 2 auctions tonight from David Hall Rare Coins. Not big money, but I like what I got. It is pretty easy to spend way too much money; so I will have to be careful, and not upset the wife.image Check them out and tell me what you think...... Did I do "OK" for my first auctions?

You did just fine.image Make sure you ask them to combine shipping, though. It's $6.50 a crack, and they won't combine it unless you ask.

  • Russ beat me to it. They will combine shipping for you if you ask. I think they knocked mine down to $8.50 for 2 coins.

Without even being close to the house authority on these coins, I really don't see how you could have gone too wrong. It's a no lose scenario, two beautiful coins for a reasonable price, from a company with a track record that insures you are a least dealing with professionals. Good job and congratulations. A good foray into the land of eBay.

    Nice!!!

Question though. Whats with the pics they look kind of odd, out of focus or played with a little?

But don't worry these proofs from late 70s - early 80s are very strong DCAMs
  • Two excellent coins. Show them to your non-collecting friends. People who have never seen these types of coins are always amazed at the beauty of them. Most people are not aware such coins exist.

I will need to "Russ-proof" my house now.image

I did email them several days ago about shipping, and they stated they would combine shipping on the 2 coins for $8 total. I also reminded them of that in my email to them. So I hope it won't be a problem. The only other item of concern was it them saying these weren't actual pictures of the coins, but would be just like them. I was a little hesitate about that, but seeing their reputation, I decided for the price, I hardly could lose.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
  • One other tip Geoman - Don't tell your wife about the money you are spending on your coins.

    toothpuller,

I only tell her about every third coin I buy.image
  • ooooooo...purty! image
  • They look great to me and I would have been in there bidding (well, maybe not with the shipping cost which I believe to be excessive). Too bad I am still in the 'no buying' mode for the next couple of months. I just got one of those pretty 79 S Type Two for about what you paid. Nice pieces. Kris.

  • WTG Geoman. I bought 2 pf 69 halves from them 2 weeks ago. ( 80-s and 81-s). They did combine shipping and the coins were very nice. I paid more though...... 13.50. Boo Hoo !

  • Geoman; You did more than OK...Hope your good fortune continues.Twowood
  • You did OK, but it says that the coins in the pics are NOT the actual coin you will receive. If it was not for the reliability of David Hall I would be leary. Watch out next time image

Very nice looking coins, and it seems you got them cheap enough...way under the typical charge for slabbing them in the first place. Good job!

    Bigdogg,

Yea, I am a little worried about the coins. The auction stated "Please note that the coin in the photo isn't the actual coin you will be purchasing but an example of the coin." Normally, I won't buy something that you don't get the actual coin as pictured; but with the reputation of David Hall, the fact that is has been certified PF69DCAM by PCGS, and the price was low enough to chance it, it decided what the heck.

But no bet.image You'd win for sure. Heehee.......

I'll post pics of the coins when I get them.
