1959 wheat back Cent

I know people will think Im crazy, but Ive got to ask the question to all out there: Has anybody seen one?
I actually HELD one in my hand when I was first starting out in collecting, but I remember just tossing it back into one of the drawers I was searching through for old cents at the time because it was a 1959.
Then later, when I looked in what had to be my first Redbook (1973 ed), I didnt see a 59 wheat cent listed- I went back to look for it again, but it was lost. Coinworld did a piece on the possible existance of the coin a while back, saying it probably DID exist, but has anyone else seen or heard of one?

Only the controvertial one that was up for sale recently. I'd still like to have one, though.

i would think you might be a little bit, uh, "touched", BUT, i remember years ago participating in discussions about whether or not such a coin existed. i remember, because there was some discussion on whether a 1958 MEMORIAL reverse could also exist.

but i have never actually seen either, including the one in coin-world.

  • I dont believe it was a 59 D- Im sure it was a plain. I know it sounds crazy, but its something I never forgot for whatever reason.

    Bill.

BTW- my coinworld subscription ran out sometime last year, and I havent renewed....yet.
  • Dokkar, I have not seen or heard of that one either!

    Thanks,

    Bill

Dokkar... I like that. Kind of makes you sound like a Klingon, Dorkkarl.

a klingon! dude, do you like the old star trek better or the next-gen? for me, it's captain kirk, spock, scottie, bones mccoy & lieutenant uhura all the way!

all time original star-trek babe: "vina", in the pilot episode. stunning, definitely MS-69+ image. although joan collins wasn't all bad either....

  • (beelzebud, sorry you are about to be the victim of a momentary thread hijacking)

Dokkar-- of course the original is the stuff. I did enjoy next generation for a while when I was a night owl and it was the only thing that was ever on at 11:00. My God, I have seen more threads hijacked around here by Star Trek lovers than all other things combined.

One of the best laughs I got out of a post here, was someone had misspelled "Ultra rare" in an auction and it came out "Uhura rare" and some board member said this was a designation put on slabbed coins collected by ex-Star Trek actors. That cracked me up.

I think in one edisode of Next Gen they made a 59-D cent in the replicator. There you go, Beelzebud... on topic again!

  • I would say that a 59 Lincoln would be "Uhura Rare."

You have to admit Karl and Russ, that Klingons looked a little cooler in the next gen.

would "klank" be a good klingon name?

  • I think "Klankar" would strike fear into the hearts of the solar system.

I don't know. I think "slicker" would be a better description. The technology to produce the series has come a long, long way since the original and it shows in the makeup, sets and props.

I actually like all of the "generations". Each is different, entertaining and fun. But, I still have a special place in my heart for the original, since I grew up with it. I also think that they simply cannot ever adequately duplicate the characters and relationships that developed in the original. Besides, the original had balsa wood phasers!image

  • The original Star Trek rules! TNG is okay, and I refuse to watch the other spinoffs!

what was the 1 that had that robot that would go around saying something like "i am simon, i am perfect", or something like that? another on i really liked was when they got switched with a star-trek gang from a different dimension - & spock had a beard!!!

    great memories, dudes.

  • "I am Nomad... I am perfect!"

Kirk finally convinced the thing it wasn't perfect because it had made a mistake. It thought Kirk was it's creator, which he wasn't. So it did the big melt-down and the Enterprise was saved! Yea.

God, how do I know these things... that's a rhetorical question.

Evil Spock with a goatee... that was too good.

  • As it pertains to the thread, I've not seen one myself. I wouldn't put it past the mint to have '63 Kennedys, '64 Franklins, etc.

As it pertains to the thread hijack (I don't like that word... perhaps mis-direct or wander?)

I happen to think Seven of Nine is a beautiful woman.

Lord M hereby decrees that Dorkkarl shall henceforth be known as "Klankar". ROFL.

So what were we supposed to be talkin' about, here?

Oh yeah. A 1959 Wheatie. Hmm. I would have said it sounds like a crock to me.

That is, until I saw that link Russ posted...

nomad - that's it! what got nomad hosed up was when kirk made 2 statements:

    (1) everything i say is a lie
    (2) i'm lying

nomad tried to thread through the logic and blew his circuits. because if he's lying, then he's telling the truth. but if he's telling the truth, then he must be lying, etc etc. in fact, this was my 2d choice for a tagline, but occam's razor still says it all for me.

hey beelzebub, i promise not to post any more non-topics here. 1 quick question though, isn't "beelzebub" aka "the devil"? image

    & lordmarcovan: I LIKE IT!

I'm glad you approve, Dor- uh... Klankar.

(Now all you have to do is get some forehead implants.) image

    Whoops- off topic again.

What I meant was, you should get some 1959 Wheaties implanted in your forehead.

    There. Much better. image

  • Is Scotteo (sp?) back? I wonder if he found the 1804.
A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.
