  • Sorry, but not at this time.

We are hoping that the software writers will take our suggestions in to consideration. Our biggest problem has been with people loading inappropriate icons.
The way the system is now, the icon feature is on or off. We would like to be able to turn it on and review all the icons prior to everyone else seeing them.

If this change happens, I'll post on all the forums letting everyone know of the changes.

One possibility would be to have the feature turned on, and let the moderators report inappropriate icons.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • We did that for awhile but we ran in to 2 main problems.
The icons would be loaded at night or over the weekends so we wouldn't see them until Monday morning.
The second problem was, once deleted, the person would just put it back up. The system does not tell us who loaded the icon so we could not go back to that person.

I see your point, Carol. It's not worth the headaches.

  • I did open it for a day not long ago.
Maybe it's time to do that again soon.
Once I turn it off I can go through and dump any icons we wouldn't want our Grandma's to see.
If I do that, I'll post something so you'll know.
How's that for a compromise? image

    hello carol

regarding my keets icon, it's still listed in the choices on the profile page so i'm assuming that it's been deemed OK. the problem is that it won't load. any chance of fixing it so i can use it? thanks.

  • If you are getting the dreaded red x you'll need to load it again when the time comes.
I see what you all see from the image servers.

does the red x mean they deemed my icon inappropriate or that there is something wrong with the url? i know that right after this all started i had e-mailed/pm'd you and bj and there were a couple of times my icon would appear as i posted but then be gone at the next post.

  • airplanenut - I'd prefer that you didn't send them to me as I can't promise when I would load them. I'm traveling more these days and I would hate for them to be forgotten.

Keets - If I dump an icon it wouldn't show up as a choice on the list. The red x indicates there is a problem with the image on the server.

  • You guys should try vbulletin on these forums. Check it out at coinforums.com

Its only like $140 and there is no better software on the market. Shouldnt be too hard to convert the database over either. I can help if need be. image

  • The format choice is not up to me..I live with what our IS department decides on.
I think this software does a good job. There are a few minor changes but overall we're pretty happy with it.

  • I don't know how to upload pictures, but when the time comes, could someone upload a pizza picture for me?

Here is a humble suggestion, O Great Forum Empress:

If the problem is a case of not having time to play watchdog, why not make one day a month Icon Upload Day? Say, the first day of the month, or last day, or whatever. Then there is a limited window of opportunity, but the door will be open for a short time (and properly guarded by appropriate watchdogs, of course.) Anyone uploading an inappropriate icon at that time could either get a warning, or more appropriately, get thrown off the forums.

The last time the door was open for a day or so, I missed the boat, because I didn't know when it was going to be open. If there were a set day once a month (or an announcement before the fact, that would be great).

I still have to win that nice proof 2c piece before I can upload it as an icon... image

You win best suggestion of the day!
I think that works best for everyone involved.

    Thank you!

(Am I laying it on a bit too thick, perhaps? ...Nope. Maybe not. Flattery will get you everywhere.) image

Do let us know when it is decided what day will be icon day. Maybe by that time I will have shot a big hole in Russ and any other snipers who reach their greedy claws out toward my 2c piece... image
