  • Well, I tend to collect books more than coins. They fit my budget much better! image My main focus is Quarters, so that is what most of my books cover, now that I am branching out to other series, so are my books. But here are a coule of my most used:

The Best of the Washington Quarter Doubled Dies by John A Wexler and Kevin Flynn
The Complete Guide to Washington Quarters by John Feigenbaum
Standing Liberty Quartes by J.H. Cline
The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Unites States Liberty Seated Quarters by Larry Briggs
    and an excellent one:
The Washington Quarter Doller Book: An Attribution and Pricing Guide (1932-1941) by James Wiles, Ph.D
    and of course:
Walter Breens complete Encyclopedia of US Coins

I have others, but these are my main tools

    ANA Grading Standards,

  • I'm still quite a newbie at coins, but I did manage to pick up a 2003 Redbook. I has come in handy, already. So has this board, and the internet in general.
I would buy some more books, but I keep spending all my cash on coins!

I tend to spend money on coins, then eventually buy a book, only to find out I didn't get that great of a deal on the coin. Then I gotta spend more on coins! image

I have around 100 books in my numismatic library. The ones I enjoy the most are by Q. David Bowers of which I have 23. My favorites are his Encyclopedia of U.S. Commemorative Coins and "An Inside View Of The Coin Hobby In The 1930s: The Walter P. Nichols File".
Another favorite is "Silver & Nickel Dollars Of Canada, 1911 To Date" (1978) by Stephen E. Dushnick

Isn't it things like this that make me glad to be a Numist.

One big hats off to ya all. Thanks Robbi Hunsucker.

  • I have the basic books also, but found it depressing when I went to my local library, where I used to work and found their lack of coin books. Either they don't have a good inventory, they were checked out and not returned, or they were checked out - or all of the above --- and this is a pretty large city. The only interesting one that I found was The Big Silver Melt, and found it quite interesting. Anyone else read it - and what do you think of it? I also find a lot of great information on the good ole internet.

This large city also doesn't have a great inventory of coins shops - or a local coin club - seems nobody wants to "deal with it", I was told. Also, there doesn't seem to be many coins shows in my area either ----- am I doomed? image

Well, I'm glad to see that someone can get a reasonable response to this question.

    My similarly titled thread

I also got PMs referring me to this NGC Library thread.

I guess I've somehow alienated myself from the group, but, recognizing the value of the forum, I will continue to monitor and just keep my posts to a minimum. If there is something you feel I can specifically help you with, just PM me. I check evey few days or so.

Anyway, I guess the combination of these threads will provide sufficient resource recommendations for us all.

  • Hey Gibert thanks for replying, I must have missed your post that you linked or I sure would have posted to it, I don't get to get on as much as I used to. this week seems like I have been on alot. and as far as I know you have not alienated me I always like to read your posts and discussions.

You asked about a new Dime book, I really would not know about a new one except the one mentioned in the post you linked,

I was wondering if there was any new lincoln books that might have come out recently, anyway I still haven't gotten to pick up a 2003 redbook. They are out aren't they?

Well got to get off now so will try to get on tomarrow to see what else is new. thanks for your addition to the post.

Well, I don't have much reference material at all. Here are all the coin related books I have:
      ANA Grading Standards
      PCGS Grading Standards
Some book on commemorative coins, can't remember name off-hand
Also have some videos on counterfeit detection and grading. My brother has the Krause and Photograde.

    Cam,

Kriegsgefangenenlager is German for "P.O.W. camp"; I have some nice examples from WWI German and Austro-Hungarian lagers. I also have a complete set of the notes issued for the WWII Theresienstadt Ghetto.
