Found a semi-toned Sacagawea in one of my mint sets...

One of my recent batches of mint sets contained a nice looking 2002-P Sacagawea - it had a nice strike and had no bags on faces or papoose (not even her nose or the baby's forehead). Then it occurred to me that there was something peculiar about the color. It has a crecent of bright red from 8 o'clock to 1 o'clock, thin, but very bright red/orange.

I just got the grading results from PCGS. It's an MS68! Something fun in every batch! (The 2002-D was a great disappointment. I pegged MS67, and prooflike, too.)

  • Very nice image

I have a full roll of nicely toned saq's. Just dip, rince, and set on a paper towel for 10 mins then flip. You will get colors out of this world. image

  • Folks,

It will ship Monday, so I should be able to post pics by week's end. I hope my camera can pick up the red. I know it's not those wonderful eye-candy Morgans and blue nickels I see - but it is very different (and my very own first find, too.) The grade doesn't suck, either!

    Thanks all, and thanks robertpr!

When I do my traditional newbie-posts-silver-proof-kennedy picture next week (DHeath will be expecting one soon so I can learn the secret handshake! image), I'll post one of the 00 Kennedy or the 02 Kennedys that came back.

I guess I could also post the 99 Silver-sniped Kennedy from last week?

i've left a 2000-D sac "out to tone" for the last 3-4 months. just had it sitting on a flip on top of the desk and i turn it over whenever i remember it's there. the obverse is about half light blue in color--sacajawea looks almost like she has grey hair. the reverse is kinda spotty, half blue and half the original color. kinda cool really. i think i'm gonna find the cleanest one i can, get it standing on edge where it won't get knocked over, and leave it there till it takes on some color.

    that's not AT, is it??!!image

  • keets - casual environmental exposure wouldn't be AT, would it? Although a truly blue Sac that was created naturally would be TOO COOL, though!

  • when did PCGS receive your coins? I'm just wondering how long I have to wait before I get to see some results. Today was a full week esince they received mine. If you couldn't tell, it's my first submission. Thanks in advance.

    Bsqr,

If you submitted them Modern, they seem to be running about 20 days. If you chose economy, it takes a few days longer. Two of mine were received on the 24th, and aren't up yet. I'd guess they'll post around the 15th.image

  • bsqr - I'm with DHeath on this one. My submissions have been taking 10-14 calendar days after PCGS receives them to post grades, then about 4 days to get them in the mail after that (They're in Newport Beach imageimage, and I'm in Raleigh, NC).

These are modern submissions. Other submissions take longer to grade and post, but it really depends on the service level.

Last batch was received on 9/20 and was posted today 10/4. They're good about mailing them out fast on a business day.

  • Could someone explain the desire to have a coin toned? I guess I am missing the point.
    Thanks

    UB,

I'm in Greensboro. Brian, I wonder too. I am curious what effect the anti-oxidant will have, long term.
