Just in, my first mint state Two Cent piece.:-)

Giant, humongous monster sized scans here:
REALLY big obverse.
REALLY big reverse.
Question for you experts. Are those die cracks coming down from the tip of the leaves, and horizontally from the date on the left side of the obverse?

Beautiful coin, way to go Russ, is this going to supplant the Kennedy collection?

Nope, in addition to. I like the history of the Two Cent pieces and think they're an ubercool little coin. Mostly, I've just been grabbing them in the EF range, but I wanted a graded comparison piece.

It's probably my eyes playing tricks on me, but for years I've thought the U is just a little too tall compared to the rest of the letters in TRUST on these coins. Anyone else see that?
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

It's a PCGS MS62RB.

<< <i>That's a heck of a coin for a 62!!! What are we missing here? >>
BigD5,
I'm completely new at trying to grade these, and coming from the position of looking at tons of high grade proof coins, so it's a little tough for me to accurately gauge why it's in a 62 holder, but my impression is that the coin is a 62. For what little it's worth, here's why:
The motto ribbon and lettering have quite a few major hits, in particular top of the ribbon on both the left and the right, and the letter "G" in GOD and the letter "E" in WE. There's also a sizable hit and two smaller hits in the field above the motto. The obverse strike is also off center, reducing the eye appeal a bit. I also wonder if the multiple die cracks hurt the grade?
On the reverse, both the "T" and the "E" in UNITED have rather visible dings, as does the "2" and the letter "N" in Cents. There are also a couple visible hits in the field below Cents and one sizable nick in the field below the left side of the wreath.
To my eye, all of this added up puts it in a 62 holder. But, as I said, after dealing almost exlusively with high grade proofs I may be completely off base in trying to judge a nearly 160 year old copper business strike.

*Die cracks and the slight off center status shouldn't effect the grade.

Nice coin. It does have quite a few little hits and PCGS is hard on copper. Like BidD5 said, I could call it a 63 easy.
The 2 Cent set wouldn't be too bad to build in 64RB unless you went for the proof only 73 and then it wouldn't be that bad. I've spent much more on some Mercs.
