Coin Collectors, Wrestling Coaches, and Boxes of Coins.

I went to a small coin show a few weeks back and ran into an old teacher of mine from Junior High. This guy used to set up in a class room every day before school and talk and sell coins to the small group of us that were interested. He's retired now, but he told me they stopped (the school district) letting him do that quite a few years ago.

He was the wrestling coach. Coin collecting-wrestling coach-history teacher. Gave me one of the hardest swats I ever got in my school career. I'm sure he probably couldn't get away with that these days either.

At any rate, I'm really lucky to have met him. I feel lucky he did that. It was good to run into him at the show. We looked over the bourse floor. He grumbled about slabs, and the state of the hobby. I asked if he ever looked at eBay and he curled his lip at me. It's sure a different world than when he used to sell us coins out of big blue notebooks back in 71-72. Most of the coins that I ever bought from him disappeared. It is one of the family mysterys. I used to keep them in a box beside my bed. I was a sleep walker as a kid. One day the box was gone. Never to be found. It's like one of Leonard Nimoy's In Search of's.... never did find out.

Ah well, seems kind of slow around here this morning. Just talking out loud....
