41-s walker superb gem mintstate and a rainbow toned coin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1941 s walker in an ngc ms66 holder and is a very nice 66+ coin in anyones holder!

this coin is weakly struck as were most all S mint walkers in the 1940's but this coin has an above average strike with some weakness to miss liberty's left arm and the eagle's front left leg as it is common for all coins of this date! usually walkers dated 41 s are much more weakly struck then this coin!

this coin overall is a superb gem coin but what makes this coin really exceptional and in a class all of its own is the monster rainbow of colors on both sides of this coin giving this coin EXCEPTIONAL EYE APPEAL

also the centers of the coin on both sides is a satiny lustre that booms from this coin and through the toning but not blasting as this coin has a fully original skin which means this coin was never dipped cleaned or otherwise molested since it was struck

my guesstimate is that this coin was plucked from a roll of walkers or obtained from a bank at the time of issue in 1941 and put into an album for many years and just left this way and developed this toning since 1941!

there is no rub or roll friction on this coin at all! the off white skin on the coin and the light tone the semi crusty look of this coin in the untoned areas just makes this coin scream of originality.

also for toning like this it takes many more years than if the coin was dipped blast white as then the (secondary) toning process is faster and not as pretty along with the white parts of the coin having a loss of lustre and "look" of a fully original coin.

to me this coin as a superb gem 41 s and combined with the toning it is a MONSTER!! and one of the finest if not the finest eye appealling toned 41 s walkers in gem/superb gem mintstate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this coin resides in an eastern collection and the above comments are my own as i have examined this coin in person

sincerely michael

We have been treated to so many beautiful toned coins on the board tonight. Every time I click on a link lately I find my jaw dropping. Oh michael, that coin is a coin of the subtlest beauty. The colors on the reverse are everything you could ever ask for. Thanks for the pics, and sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm.

  • I love original album toning! It seems to highlight a coin so well and especially on this particular coin.

Thanks always Michael for posting such great coins.

The walker is the first coin I started collecting years ago. Always loved them and still do. They made big price jumps in the late 80's that took me out of them. Now they are a bargain compared to before. This 41s is a beauty. I only wish years ago I went for original.
I was more into blazers which are still nice.

    But we live and learn.

thanks for all the great responses! i love the blast white walkers! and a classic coin i mean they copied it for the ASE coins! now a walker with an original undipped skinon the coin combined with a rare date in high grade is a super rare coin but with toning like this is a one of a kind coin and i bevlieve this to be the finest 41s walker of them all! 66 combined with the toning !!!!!!!

mark you are absiolutely right this coin looks much better in person and you can see the screaming originality of this coin! and a very nice 66 also! 66+ not a 67 but certianly a very nice 66

jom the strike as you say and are correct is above average for a 41s and thanks everyone for all the great comments

    keep collecting sincerely michael
  • This has exceptional toning and is a very nice walker. For me, the toning and eye appeal bring it up to a MS66. If it were white, I would only give it a 65 because of weakness of strike. Yes, the 41-S had strike problems, but I have seen ones with a full hand and head. The 40-S is a tougher coin to find well struck. I think the 41-S is overpriced based on the population reports. Yes, it is much tougher in 65 that the other 1941-1947 dates, but many dates are tougher like the 1936-S that go for less. This coin should hold its value beacuse of its unique toning and eye appeal. What do you think? Will the 1941-S drop in price as the pop rises?

thanks all for the great comments!

also heavy copper i have seen 41 s walkers in pcgs ms67 holders with just a whisper of a better stiek but still weak now as for the prices i really do not know but to me the 41s is still underpriced as the others you mentioned are way underpriced now even if the 41s is fully priced waht makes this coin really super rare is the original white skin undipped surfaces and mostly the monster super rare colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is what may make this coin unique or semi unique and to me one of the finest if not the finest graded in 66 at both services and valuewise i would rather have this monster rainbow 66 walker then any 67 coin!! valuewise now i think the 67 coins are great and solidly priced and do have room to move up if the coin is all there the 67 coins are great values for me but this 66 looking like this is to me a more greater better value!

but i do see waht you are talking aboyt and for me these coins are graded differently than a common p mint walker that usually comes fully struck!

just like a porous large cent that grades fine by the grading services with some edge bumps a pre 1800 large cent that is acdceptable but not so for a lincoln cent from the 1950's as then it would be a damaged worthless coin!
