My latest target:
Large scans here:
1864 obverse
1864 reverse
The scans have been lightened 20% to better show detail. Coin is actually more of a medium chocolate brown. I'm thinking solid EF45 on this one. What do you guys think?

I'm trying to build a matched set in EF.

Funny you should ask. A couple friends and I debated that at length. It's an optical illusion.

I bought the MS62 as an example of a mint state coin. Since I have no experience with these, I needed something for grading comparison. That grade in the key (1872) would be way, way beyond my means.

I'd say XF, but that's just my 2 cents

Lanlord - You're right on the money.
I don't for a moment believe the actual coin is, but the photograph is inverted. Low spots show as high spots.
"some people" simply won't believe it. It's not an optical illusion.
Same coin, inverted and color-corrected a bit

What's with the incuse issue? How about seeing the optometrist? These images look fine to me. Besides, maybe the eye doc can get you some grade correcting coin goggles!
I specialize in Wisconsin currency! Looking for information on WI national banknotes. Census stands at 12,318 notes.
**"Wisconsin National Bank Notes - 2nd Edition" is out!!!" Only $20PPd!!!
Hahahaha.
I'm not seeing the incuse problem everybody else is.
Maybe I'm more blind than everyone.
