Misleading auction information

I recently won the attached auction. Now I'm unhappy because I expected 15 coins, not 11. There is conflicting information about what is included. It says one of each mint mark, and a total of 11 coins. I've asked for a refund.

What am I missing here? Why would a mint set contain 15 coins? Were you also expecting a proof set with it? A 1955 proof set is about one large all by itself.

Mikey is right- it does say 5 coins for each of P, D, and S... 15 total.

    The title does say

    << <i>1955 MINT SET PDS NR $1 >>

    and farther down

    << <i>ONE OF EACH MINT MARK >>

    But then states

    << <i>A TOATL OF 11 COINS >>

I would have emailed for a clarification first. Which coins did you receive?
  • Remember a 1955 mint set would have no D or S Franklins, because none where minted. It also would only have a P and D Washington, because no S mints were issued. I do believe also no 55 S nickel.
11 coins. That's what they minted.

Good luck finding a 55-S Washington and Franklin as there were none minted that year. As far as dimes and nickels, I'm not sure.

yeah the 55 PDS sets look funny because there are missing holes for the missing mints. when i was checking mint sets some of the auctions seemed misleading in that manner.

The auction might be confusing, but I don't think misleading. It says a 1955 Mint set, total of eleven coins. He couldn't have sent you coins from a 1955 set that were never minted.

The confusion between ONE OF EACH MINT MARK making you think 5x3 vs. A TOATL OF 11 COINS should have prompted a question to the seller.
  • 11 coins would be correct if that is what he meant by one from each mint. Only the Cent and Dime had all three mints, and the Nickel and Quarter on had P and D, and the Frank was only made in Philly. (3+3+2+2+1=11). However an original mint set would have been 22 coins.
