Are there any "I can only dream" coins that you have NO interest in?

For some reason, the 1804 dollar and the 1856 Flying Eagle do not interest me in the least. If I had the money for them, I don't think I would buy them, from a collector standpoint.

Do you have any similar coins you would completely ignore?

For some reason I don't like the 1913 Nickel. Seems like a bogus coin.

    Can't agree more on the 1804 $1.

1933 Saint. Can't get excited about it. Would rather have a whole mountain of coins I could roll around in. Guess I'm a quantity vs. quality person.

Well, I want to own them all. But I have less interest in the 1933 $20 one, flying eagles, and 1893 S Morgan. But if those come my way in the future, I wouldn't refuse image. Just wouldn't seek them out.

I agree with others about the 1913 Libety nickel. If I owned one, I'd own it only long enough to get the best price at auction. Then I'd buy some "real" coins (1802 half dime, early gold, 1796-7 hallf dollar).

I would love to own the King of Siam Proof Set. Otherwise my interest is limited for the original 1804 dollars, and the restirkes falls into the same bin as the 1913 liberty nickel.

Generally I like "real" - coins that are rare by accident. I don't like "manufactured" rarities like the 1913 nickel.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • I can't believe that the government allows ownership of the 1913 V Nickel. I don't think that I would feel comfortable owning a coin that was deviously manufactured.
