It looks very nice, and a very full strike. I would like to see it in person. I could see MS-64+ out of it. The only problem is that he does not have a return policy. This makes me too suspicious.
If the picture isn't of the coin what the heck is this seller thinking. Maybe since they have 1,000+ positives with only one negative they feel they can take some negatives without much damage.
If was the coin in the picture I think I might take a risk as it looks ms 63-64 min to me.
It might be an MS-63 at best. There's no way this coin is MS-67 because it doesn't have the luster or great toning. It also looks like it's got little marks on MS. Liberty's nose and neck.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Myself, if no return and also he says he doesn't know if it was touched up I would stay away from it. Just my opinion.
I wonder if it was stored for 50 years like he mentions, what it was stored in? To me doesn't look like it has been stored that long without something being done to it.
My guess on grade would be 63.

I looked at this coin again and just my feelings if there are any hits in the field we can't see I would not even like it as 63. But thats just me. Not trying to knock the coin but I just don't like the look of it.

You can bet that since it's a Barber and an 1897 at that I been watching & looking at it. Here's my take: I see a decent 64/65 and of course you can't see luster in the scan but the lighter areas in the scan suggest luster. OR the darker areas in the scan suggest wear or cleaning but I think the coin is good. However the hit on the neck will make it 63/64. BUT, since it is a raw coin on sleazeBay with no return policy the coin does not exist.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
This half just looks wrong. Would agree that either it's cleaned or at best a 62/62 coin. Just don't see the fresh luster a 64 should have. The darkness on the figures, esp. the face, just give off bad vibes.
for me i need to see the coin in person but just from the scan this coin is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY A MS 65 OR EVEN A 64 COIN absolutely not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
again i need to see this coin in person but from the scan i do not like the coin at all it looks overdipped and with negative eye appeal
It would look better in a PCGS (or NGC) slab. Since you can't see it in person, how do you know the grade and if it has any problems? That's a lot of money (IMO) to risk on a raw coin with no return policy.
Interesting opinions! From bodybag to beautiful. I guess I was kinda neutral about it because I really can't tell. The seller has as 97 dime just like it: Text Again, since it is a raw coin on sleazeBay with no return policy the coins do not really exist in my mind.

I've seen too many nice coins out of old collections that have had a soft eraser used on them. The coin looks great until you tilt it in good light. Then the lines show up. Next, no return - no buy high dollar raw stuff.
Raw coins touted as Mint state SHOULD ALWAYS BE ASSUMED TO BE AU58 or worse on Ebay. Always!!!
Bid AU prices and if you lose you have a 99 percent chance of missing out on a problem, or overgraded coin. If it could be slabbed MS65 it would have, no ands ifs or buts. TRUST ME!!!

Edited to add: Birthyear being 1997!!!!
My take even without the hit on the neck I don't see even close to 65. Too much going on in the face.
