Does anyone know what happened to this eBay seller? He seems to have fallen off the map in the last few months, no listings. He was mainly a 1950-1970 cameo proof dealer. Thanks.

Now that you mention it, he does seem to have vanished. Maybe he was attacked by a MOOSE!image

  • Probably ebay burnout. It happens to me, you know drop out a month then come back a month. why dont you just email and ask him?
  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
he did like to use that antler-bearer in his descriptions!!image i'd have to assume, russ, that you viewed enough of his listings to find that as over used as i did. he had some nice stuff, though. as far as an e-mail, that might be a good idea. i spoke with him on the phone regarding a lost invoice last winter so i know he has a shop in ol' miss aside from just his eBay stuff.

Pepperdoodles had some decent stuff, but may well be burned out. I BIN'd a couple of coins 5-6 weeks ago, paid ASAP with PayPal and then ... nothing. No acknowledgement of payment, no response to e-mails, nothing. I was about to file a complaint with SafeHarbor after nearly two weeks, when he/they surfaced and said sorry, we went on vacation, your payment must arrived after we left. No it didn't. At any rate, received my coins and they were as described, but a darn shoddy way to treat buyers. Left me a little leery.
  • It's been a lot longer than RGL's experience but mine was exactly the same. No nothing for a long period of time and then the "whoops, we were on vacation" story. They must be doing pretty good on eBay to take so many vacations!

Also agree that the merchandise was exactly as described and pictured. Quality coins but poor service after the sale. Dave
  • I bought a coin from him about a month ago. Prior to that he answered a bunch of questions via email, and was very helpful/courteous. I won the item on ebay, and emailed him about shipping costs and asked a question about cameos. I received billing information, but no answer to my question. I paid with a personal check, and it took weeks for me to receive my item, despite me emailing him and him sending it UPS. Good coin, though.

I know he buys almost every 1950-1964 proof set that comes up on ebay, but it looks like he's not selling for a while. He does have an actual store where I guess he does most of his selling. Ebay might have just been for specific items.

From what I gather, he is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE in 50-64 cameos (like Rick Tomaska). Personally, I would like to see him on ebay again, since I don't live in the "Hospitality State" and he doesn't have a website.

  • @ would I ever sell them on eBay? The guy uses horribly profain, vulgar language and is in need of some help. The horribly hypocritical aspect of this guy's dealings is he absolutely demands to return coins he doesn't like. I have a good friend that received numerous, day-after-day threatening e-mails if he wasn't granted a return privilege even though none was assured in the listing. He used BIN to purchase and never even bothered to inquire about a return privilege! Ebay is much better off without this jerk!
  • leothelyonleothelyon Posts: 8,459 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm waiting for a $25 refund from the PO concerning this seller. The address I returned the coin with didn't get back to him. And I imagine the insurance claim that was sent to him to verify that he didn't received the returned item is lost in the mail as well. This transaction started in early May. (Ya, tell me about it!) His coin description was way off base on the coin he sent me and his reasoning was that I shouldn't have expected a DCAM. I said I would have been happy with a cameo. The reverse was cameo but the obverse was not. He used words like HEAVY+ and ULTRA in his description on the coin.
Well, I don't want to spend time here and bash the guy. He may have been going through some rough times with his life and hopefully he'll get them straighten out and eventually come back around with a better approach. But if he had deliberate intentions in deceiving buyers, no one can do that very long before it comes back to haunt them.
Everyone may have their opinions on these type of sellers, but there are 2 other sellers that I’m directing this statement to. And I quote, “Don’t expect a buyer to accept inferior coins or items you send them. Whether you offer a return notice or not, if you know your descriptions are overkill then expect a return of the item because it’s coming right back to you and be prepared to return the refund or your name is going to become very popular among the numismatic coin world because what comes around, will ultimately go around. Treat those as you would have them treat you.

My thanks to "Clankeye" for acknowledging my first post and the hearty welcome. What is the proper forum for introducing myself. I'm guessing it's not this thread??
    Thanks again.

If you are comfortable with it, you can just start a new thread saying something like "New Member" "New to the Boards" or something similiar to that. Say as much about yourself as you feel like saying at this time, and... that's pretty much all you have to do.
Many, many members have done this on arrival. It's nice to get a little bit of an idea about the person behind the handle. Feel free to do this if you wish. It is by no means mandatory, though.

Welcome to the Forum! Have you had dealings with Ol'Funderburke? Did his extremely enhanced photos help you to believe the coin was worthy of a premium bid? Then, with total disbelief, you open the package to find a coin that doesn't, in the least, resemble the coin in the auction!

Anyone even considering a bid with Ol'Funderburke should be wise enough to first inquire about a return privilege. Be sure to KEEP THAT RESPONSE! Regardless of his response, don't take any chances by bidding on one of his raw, uncertified, ungraded coins. Do yourself a favor and check out those Negative & Neutral Feedbacks!
  • Looks like Morris & Ol'Funderburke are having it out! Here is the auction.

  • Oh, I forgot to mention I found out what supposedly happened to him. Word from a friend of mine is that pepperdoodles got hit pretty bad with a 4x4 post while doing some construction. Not 100% sure if it is true, but from a pretty reliable source.

My opinion is the guy is pretty creepy, if you have ever gotten one of his long winded emails you can understand...no punctuation, run-ons galor, and ego galor. Oh well, no big deal if you ask me...most people here and voiced their opinions and it seems like a fair judgement in my opinion. Although I have gotten some good coins from him before, I just had to learn to read his pics, but that last one, was way way off.

<< <i>What can I do about the neg feedback >>

    Morris,

99.9% of the time, you're screwed, cold day in hell, never happen, Clinton will tell the truth first, BUT, there may be a way to get it removed. eBay will nuke a comment if it, or the followup, contains foul language, personal information, or an outside link. So, here's a suggestion.

Setup a page dedicated to doodles, than post a followup to his neg with: "Nut case, read this: http://www.cameocoins.com/doodles.html".

  • robertprrobertpr Posts: 6,862 ✭✭✭
That's pretty funny Russ. What's even funnier is I tried going to the page and it gave me a 404 image

I've bought one coin from him, a cameo SMS Kennedy. It's nice, but nowhere near what he described it as. I got a very nice coin but overpaid for it. I also got the lack of communication, and then the "sorry I was on vacation" excuse.
  • krankykranky Posts: 8,709 ✭✭✭
I wonder what would happen if a prospective bidder emailed him BEFORE an auction ended to ask how fast shipping would be and if he is going to be on vacation soon. I guess he'd probably ignore it.

It's strange how no one has expressed their sympathies here so I’ll be the first.

I think something like this should bring us all a little closer together. To let bygones be bygones and put our differences behind us. What do you guys say, should we get something nice for the miss’s and all the little stakes and let them know we’re pulling for Mr. Post. LOL

Seriously, I hope the guy is doing OK. I don't like hearing about how anyone gets hurt, it's not any fun.

But as fate would have it, it sure hasn’t worked on this guy selling tactics.

Love those DCAM Lincolns! What date in PR-68 DCAM? Well, the great news is its in a PCGS holder and you probably won't need the return privilege. Just don't expect the coin to look as PQ as it may have in his pictures.

    BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Read the feedback. All the negative feedback is true. Ongwinded e-mails, threatening, and then trying to turn the tide and say it's all my fault. This thread proves that as well.

More than happy to provide more details in a PM.

At least what I bought was slabbed, so hopefully I won't get hit too hard.

Just wondering. Did you try and return the coin for a refund? What was the auction number? Link?
  • I quess I have to add my 2 cents here...bought a certified PCGS coin..from him...asked several questions....nice replies...quick payment by me and turn around by him.....nice coin reasonable price....so my experience was good and if you look at his negative percentage..it is 1% of all his transactions of nearly 2000 positive feedbacks.....which from my experience is about average for all high volume dealers......

    again just my 2 cents!
  • segojasegoja Posts: 6,134 ✭✭✭✭
Trying to return it as we speak. Nothing doing, even at a discount. Seems the coin is worth $3500 bucks (I only paid $1400), but not worth his time to buy it back. I'll leave the link off until I get this resolved. That may be a few weeks.

It's my fault for not checking, but the power seller status caused me to forget caveat emptor. I've emailed ebay about that, as they should not endorse people who have NO RETURNS policy AND conviently omit that detail from thier description.

Seems like for jsut customer satisfaction reasons, someone would take a coin back. I sell on e-bay and here on the forum. I'll take anything I sell back NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Occassionlly someone takes me up one that. That's OK. When was the last time you went to a show and bought every coin you looked at. If I sell at reasonable prices and treat them right, they'll come back.

........nearly two months ago when i asked the question of his whereabouts, i had no idea of the raw nerve that pepperdoodles had left some members with. my personal experiences with him were, fortunately, not fraught with so much anxiety. i had a lost invoice moment but none of the accompanying nastiness. and i did indeed receive some wonderful coins. i guess that puts me in the majority!!imageimage

i would hope that members with no eBay history with pepperdoodles would take the usual precautions needed in that venue.

  • sorry to hear about your troubles..Im a small seller on ebay and always post my return policy when I list..of course...ebay covers themselves..with this little sentence which you find on all lists

"Seller assumes all responsibility for listing this item. You should contact the seller to resolve any questions before bidding. Auction currency is U.S. dollars ( US $ ) unless otherwise noted"

My ebay rules...always read the listing twice...look closely at the pic..use the enlargements.....question the listing to the seller when you want more info or there is something missing...like the return policy.........

hope it works out for you!..Good Luck

Also since he wants to be a powerseller on ebay there are a few rules.
He can get booted for not following them.

    Q.
What does "A PowerSeller in good standing" mean?

    A. As a PowerSeller, you are a pillar of the eBay community. Therefore, you must uphold a high level of professionalism. You must:
    Keep your eBay account current
Deliver responses within three business days to successful high bidders
Keep listings and business practices in compliance with eBay Policies
We also strongly recommend that you have a return policy that is appropriate for the items you offer
PowerSellers should be exemplary eBay community members, committed to upholding eBay core values.

Power seller rules have no teeth. Unfortunately they are very nebulious (sp).

They need to raise the feedbakc standard from 98% to 99.5%. 98% is terrible.

They should also force a seller to be upfront about no returns. Again, my fault for not checking, but the ringing endorsement by EBAY is VERY misleading.
