Submitting to PCGS through a dealer

Can anyone tell me if it’s generally less expensive to submit 5-10 coins to PCGS through a dealer than it is to submit directly? Are there any advantages/disadvantages either way?

Thanks,

Dan

Depends on what rate you submit them at, and what rate a dealer will submit them for you. I do all of mine through my dealer because it is less expensive than any of the levels they offer non-dealers (I pay what he pays), but that is probably not always the case.

  • I believe it's only like $8 or something. The disadvantage is that some dealers have been known to switch coins after they get back.

  • Littlewicher - that’s a scary thought. There’s probably no way to really prove when this happens either. Probably most coin dealers are honest, though.

The PCGS dealers in my area had no interest in submitting my coins. I had to join the Collector's Club.

  • As a PCGS authorized dealer, don't they have to submit your coins if you ask them to and pay for the service?

The dealer closest to me told me that I'd be able to submit them cheaper through Collector's Club than what he would charge me. After I found out how much dealers pay I figured I was grateful that he was at least honest with me about what he'd likely charge me!

There are several dealers that don't want to take customer submissions. I guess it is too big of a pain.

I believe Flash (?) has told the story of a dealer refusing to submit his coins because they weren't worthy.

You Can't believe how much the postage, insurance, shipping and handling will cost a dealer

Sure I can. They just charge it to the submitter.
