ANACONDA SAYS GOODBYE FOR NOW

Howdy! Posting here has become less fun. It's reached the point where lurking seems to just call my name. Posting to this forum is time consuming, and effective communication seems to be an elusive goal.
I may only be gone for 30 days. I may come back and "do some more research", much like the alcoholic has to re-take up drinking several times before he finally says enough. Maybe I'm just having a bad day. I seriously doubt it. Yes, accuse my mother of wearing army boots and I'll probably come in and defend her honor, but you are free to "take a chunk outta me" now that I'm giving it a rest.
Here's the thread that was the proverbial straw, breaking the camel's back. I wouldn't bother reading it, but just in case you are interested, here it is:
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=125348&STARTPAGE=1
To the many honorable people who post here. Can you clone yourselves en masse and drown out the riff raff?
Take care....for now,
adrian

Anaconda, I hope you'll reconsider. You have consistently provided an informative and enjoyable facet to the discussions found in this forum.

I have found most of your contributions to this forum to be highly entertaining and frequently very informative. At least to a novice like myself. We live in very different numismatic worlds, but I can still gain from your insights and experience.
But you sure didn't do much to stop it! (I must admit I didn't get past page 2 - far, far too boring!)
Sorry to see you go. Lurking won't stop people from posting statements that offend you. My feeling is that the best remedy is to shun those whose conduct is unethical, such as those who make unsubstantiated attacks on others. But certainly there are many threads that are not flames.
Living with the internet requires an understanding that anyone can post anything, no matter how incorrect. One must view each post with skepticism unless you know the poster is a truly knowledgeable on the subject. Fortunately, there are many contributors to this forum who are very knowledgeable. The more knowlegeable participants, the more valuable the board is, so that erroneous statements can be countered with correct information.
Many posts are matters of opinion. There again, it makes for a more worthwhile forum if the most knowledgeable voices can be heard. The numerous toned vs. untoned; classic vs. modern; pcgs vs. ngc threads have shown that many forum members have a lot of ego tied up in their collecting preferences, but if one filters out the flaming, there have been many interesting points made.
my suggestion for you is to stop running cause you keep making the mistake of taking yourself along whenever you go. give pause and take a nice, long look in the mirror at what the real problem is. all of us do it at some point in our lives and maybe this is your time. you've just always come across to me as a bitter guy and i've seen where that ends.
am i the only one who finds it bizzare that you would tell us not to bother reading the thread but you bothered to post the comments???? WOW!!!!! get a grip, quick!

Probably best that you did. Personally, I will miss reading your perspective. I did not partake in that thread and am glad. I had not even read it, until now, as I don't collect currency. That was a real doozy! I have to agree with others that you had your share of fault in this one. I'm sure you are not the only Member who gets frustrated with others who spout off about issues of which they have so little knowledge! I find it shameful some Members take the stance they have taken in this thread. Adrian, take some time off and be sure to come back. Unfortunately, most of the same ***** will still be around. The vast, vast majority will be interested in hearing from you again.

You can't let some "Element" get to you!
Igore some posts and move on... That's what alot of us regulars do.
I for one will miss your thoughts.

I don't understand why the question wasn't simply asked like;
Hi Bustman
I've read your comment and I've heard some things about these companies.
Why do you think these people are immoral and corrupt? PM me if you like.
Your friend, Anaconda
Addressing this issue in this manner would have been more appropriate and possibly more informative. And less confusing and time consuming. Now, for me to get an answer to this tailtelling twist to the story. I'll need to surf the internet.
I too, would have liked an answer. Although I collect little in currency, my wife never fails to come home from work to show me some old bill(s) that someone spent on pizza. But now, I may never know.
But maybe CGC or CGA recently went bankrupt or maybe there was an internal scam of some sort.
Maybe some top official was taking money under the table or there was sex scandel. Other reasons may include a few bad business experiences and for many other possible unknown reasons they were not publicly posted. If that is the case and it proves true, shouldn't we respect this forthcoming news.
Oh.... the suspence....I can't stand it!........GRRRR!

I've seen this happen at a number of boards, and it's not just coins, or computers, or politics, or whatever.
One of the big problems with communication in writing, is that many people either take too literally, or conversly
tend to read too much into what someone says. Obviously the judicious use of emoticons helps, but particularly
with people that have a sharp wit, or trend sarcastic (like me) - we are many, many times in hot water when the
original intent may have simply been "ribbing" the other member in a playfully abusive way - like friends or brothers do.
I'm not saying this is, or is not the case here - but from experience, these things are almost never as they appear.
One misinterpretation leads to another, and before you know it... FLAME WAR.
I'm taking no sides, I simply wished to point out that it may be *possible* that no one really intended any real ill will.
Since I don't know many folks here yet - I know I for one, will keep an open mind regarding the matter.
c'mon guys... it's COINS. Spirited discussions will abound when intelligent people gather. Not taking it quite so seriously
does in fact help.
Sorry for the blather...

Stay and ignore the posts and posters who drive you nuts. You mentioned in another thread, something to the effect of - it's a waste of time to try to reason with certain people. I'm not taking sides on the currency thread, as I don't feel that I know anything upon which to offer an informed opinion. But, you offer a great deal of useful information, humor, wit and insight. You also present thought provoking questions and subjects.
One last thought - if you leave this board I will sue!

Thank you for your attention.
I just looked at the thread and felt the same way other people here have. There is no reason to start threatening lawsuits because someone claims another company is corrupt or whatever. Why not just ask what problems he has ran into and go on with it? Also, you have to know when to stop responding to a thread after you have made your final points, otherwise a thread could go on forever with 2 people fighting back and forth.

At least that is what I thought until I saw your wonderful suntanned pics.
Seriously, whatever you decide, is fine with me.
Just keep in mind you are down to 29.5 days at the most.
I have to admit to having just skimmed the thread due to the immense verbosity and negative energy being emitted.....but nowhere did I see anybody threaten a lawsuit. I saw Anaconda say that what was stated by Bustman could be enough for someone to sue for libel and, based on my previous experience with TAGZ on this board, I would have to agree.
Just because ACG ignores the posts on this board does not mean that they could not sue. Granted, it would be very difficult to determine a monetary damage over a chatroom comment, but that's up to a judge or jury to decide - not you or me. And it's very expensive to defend one's self no matter who wins in the end! Anaconda's initial post was one of caution and the message should be heeded by most of us (except for Greg - he's beyond all hope).
The remainder of the thread I can do without.

does anyone else find it ironic that this is all about a currency posting on the coin board?
oh well, if you go Adrian, thanks for the RNA tip, didn't mention it before, but i find Maurice to be a pretty good read.
All I learned is to either quit or leave when things don't go my way. Thanks, but both of those lessons I knew.
I read the thread. whatever.
Up until tonite I had looked forward to the day when I would have one of his monster coins in my collection. Seems to stand true, coin dealers are a dime a dozen. They come and go.

There is nothing wrong about admitting to someone or yourself that you are less than perfect, in fact it shows an inner strength and peace to be able to do so. It amazes me and saddens me too, the number of parting shots I have read. I am not taking sides but I have to tell you after reading this thread and the one the that initiated it I have to admit, I think less of this forum than I did before reading them.
I used to chat over 12 hours in a day and many issues and arguments have been part of that experience. I think I have learned much from the other type of personalities that I have experienced in that chat time. In some cases, my personal feelings had to go through an emotional wringer at times. In those chats, many life situations and experiences were shared (as well as manufactured). I think I became a more wiser person from having experienced it. But for this forum, I have not been much of an interactive message poster as in my previous chat days. But after assessing the entire gamut of my experience on the computer, I will treat any interaction on the PC more gingerly and NEVER get into any debate with others (unless it is a life and death situation). So anyone who wants to argue with me will get a wall of silence. I am a wallflower of sorts and the PC helped me to become more of an "extrovert", but I will continue to use the internet to make my life more convenient and knowledgeable. It got me close to $1000 just for going online

What would your slabbed coins be worth if the grading services went out of business? What would your coins be worth if the Internet was taken offline for good?
Anyway, my vote is no one should ever leave. The moderators do a decent enough job at blocking all the super-offensive stuff and other than that the message board has lots of links and it is very easy to not read ones you don't want to.
I have used message boards where there were 10-20 times as many posts per hour as this board has per day and I still didn't have too tough of a time finding information that I wanted to read so the more the merrier!
Plus arguments can be very entertaining Although I'd probably give the thread that spawned this thread a 3 out of ten.
Awaiting your return.....
