Opinions wanted on a registry idea.

How would everyone feel if PCGS decided to create Young Numismatists registry sets? Only people 18 and under could enter their sets. I was just thinking maybe like type sets to start off with and maybe work from there. Let's be honest here, when a kid wants to buy a coin from a well known dealer, they just brush the kid off, not taking them seriously. I have run into this many, many, many times before. They treat you with less respect. I think kids only sets would be a positive influence on the future of Numismatics. It will let kids actually try to compete in the registry sets, without having to worry about the "big boys" with all of their top pop coins blowing away any dreams the kids have had. What are your opinions on a registry set like this?

Sounds like a good idea but you'll have to define "kid".....I'm forty and still consider myself a "kid" at heart anyway!
Check out my PQ selection of Morgan & Peace Dollars, and more at:

Really, If I wanted. Couldn't I delete my FE set and re-register it under my son's name? (not that my set is anything fantastic in either place)
PS: A kid would be defined as 18 and under.

P.S. - I know what you mean about people treating you differently when your a kid. Three or four years back, I was at a flea market and was looking at different coins from a dealer. I was intrigued by one of the coins the dealer had in the glass, so I asked how much, and the dealer replied "more than youve got"... I later researched about the coin... it was a stone mountain commem (I was a real newbie to coins back then) and it was marked AU+... so it wasn't even a $40 coin. That guy pissed me off royal!

LW, keep going to shows. Don't let the turds win.
<< <i>LW - I think its a great idea. In the meantime, why couldn't PCGS just add the YN designation next to the name in the rankings so everybody could see the young sets without opening a separate registry. Maybe BJ would add that. Seems like a no brainer. >>
PCGS already puts a YN next to the young numismatists if they want it there (there is an option to put it there).

<< <i>its a good idea but most kids only collect raw coins and dont know what pcgs is >>
How true that is... I didn't know what PCGS was until about a year and a half ago. I remember about three years ago I bought a PCGS morgan, but I just thought the slab was a case for it and I tried without success to crack it out:-p.

Littlewicher - Have you ever tried to sell any coins either raw or PCGS slabbed ? All collectors have to sell their coins for many reasons ? YOU CAN ALWAYS KEEP YOUR PROFIT IN COINS.
MANY COIN DEALERS ARE GENEROUS and as soon as they figure out that you can help them and it is not a one way street........things will start looking up !!!!!
Good Luck !!
