50 sets of autographed bicentennial coins.....

The ebay auction is number 1379571868. The photos of the coins look strange. The coins are supposed to be ms choice or gem. They look like deep cameos. How did they do the pics?

And yet the reserve has not yet been met.

Must be a pretty hot item. All the way up to $4 and change for each set and less then 24 hours to go.

I'm not sure that this is the process they used but it looks like they used Adobe PhotoShop and took a regular photo and overlayed the same thing with a stylized image (solarized or "find edges" or something similar). I haven't done that with coins but I did it with a plain scenic view once and it turned out similarly.
  • the photos were done in grey scale.

  • When I read the title of this post, the first thought that came to my mind was "Folkartnut". He truly is a nut.

    Clark,

That's a mighty fine looking Kennedy you have there.image

  • Russ,

It looked better before I.... ehem... enhanced the scan. Personally, I don't know how you can stand to sell a coin, and then have to see it in somebody else's set. I guess I'm just a sentimental guy.

  • You're awesome, Jeremy. I think Folkartnut is just plain crazy!image He tries to make up all of these investment schemes.

  • For those who dont know an ms from a deep cam proof, they are going to really be suprised to find the coins look nothing like the pictures.
  • Folkart is probably losing his shirt on this signed bicentennial deal. He had 500 sets made up and he has been trying to dispose of them for 14 months now. And he has been trying to sell them individually, in sets, in bulk lots etc usually running multiple auctions at the same time. I bought one indivividual piece from him 6 months ago. It was from set # 123. and I paid less than it cost to buy the coin and have it slabbed.
  • Clark, thats a nice picture of a nice coin and it looks fairly real. Now if you go back to the top and look at the pics on the auction, you will see that their coins look like the most drastic deep cameo coins you have ever seen. In fact their coins are ms coins with no cameo at all. that is what i was questioning.

Aren't these coins created by Les Fox? Is "folkartnut" Les Fox? I always assumed he was.

Anyway, I thought this part of the description "On October 18, 2001 (shortly after 9/11), we reunited President Gerald R. Ford with the three artists..." was absurd. Sure, October 18 is after 9/11 but so what? Talk about a meaningless appeal to patriotism.

  • I am ever so happy to see that bozo the folkartnut didnt get anywhere near what he expected, and that bid was 900 dollars too much. All that signature junk will be worth more for the plastic than the coins or the signatures of the jamokes involved.
