I think i know the simple reason and answer to this thread, and yes! from personal experience, here it is in the open although some may already know the truth......i came here about 3 or so years ago under a different name (bobnoxious) and yes i was, like its4real i was well versed in real estate, securities, insurance, and law my backround was of a very educated one,so i assumed then and we all know when you ASSUME you make a ass out of you and me (break the word down)! anyway when i came to the boards i knew nothing of coins even though i owned some nice high grade morgans, money and stupidity bought them, not knowledge of the hobby,so in short when i came to the pcgs(then collectors universe)i assumed i was knowledgable in everything, after all i was a man of the world knew a little about everything(yea right) anyway i came here(then) with the same attitude you have now, picking everones brain for info and help, and $hitting on them verbally when i didnt like what i learned.....................yes i left the boards OUT OF SHAME,there was no apoligy that was going to correct the wrong i did to people with my attitude and thinking i knew it all since i owned some very high grade coins at the time 1895 proof morgan certified,1901 ms65 morgan certified,1894 -s and 1895-s in ms-64 yea all certified so yes i thought I WAS THE MAN and had the same outlook you do know, but here it is in short. 1)it is not what you know, its how you learned. 2)its not what you have done, its what you are going to do. 3)never $hit at the dinner table to where your going to eat. 4)people are generaly here to help, and if you cant handle the truth,go about your life on your own ----its a lie anyway if you cant handle the true answers to your questions-----go home! 5)and it doesnt matter, what you have,if you have no friends or family to share it with or leave it to. moral to the story"if your here to pick peoples brain,to make quick money from their heart felt training and knowledge, and the sharing of all the wealth here on these boards. GET THE HELL OUT (as i did) UNTIL YOU GROW UP,AND UNDERSTAND,THESE (MOST OF THEM) ARE GREAT PEOPLE WILLING TO SHARE,TEACH,AND GROW WITH YOU! do not kid yourself, these people here come from all walks of life, and can figure out a scam without any research, they are tight, close and do care about the hobby, you can not bull$hit them not for a minute! THEY ARE NOT STUPID,make your final apoligy be real(as your handle states) and you will be surprised how they will take you in,under their wing, and teach you something that YOU THINK YOU ALREADY KNOW! P/S....just words of advise as i started off on the wrong foot back in the day,and yes i am man enough to admit it today.so you see everyone (generally) is here to help....even I a past $hit stain who walked your path and learned.

"There is always a way to collect,Never surrender the hobby"
Well, I've lurked around enough on this thread and figure I might as well get my $.02 worth in. (Okay, maybe it's only worth $.01.)
I have to generally agree with what has been said about all this. You say there has been a lot of disagreement and not everybody has been saying the same thing? Exactly. There are valid points being made on both sides of this issue.
I haven't read all of its4real's threads, nor do I intend to, but I did see some of the early ones and his first auction which I figured would rightly ruffle a few feathers. I mean I have put pictures of coins up on this board asking for opinions and later sold them on ebay. I never ocurred to me to quote positive comments from members of this board. That would be just plain stupid! It might not be against any rules or regulations, I really don't know.
Unfortunately for its4real, his communication skills are...well, actually they aren't. He doesn't have any! Which is unfortunate. Because he actually made a valid point. But in such an obnoxious manner that nobody pays any attention to it. The medium becomes the message.
There have been new people post on this board, who get pretty soundly flamed very quickly and disappear. Maybe it's best that some of them do disappear. But some of them, at least to me, seemed innocent, if also ignorant. Shouldn't we be a little more accepting of someone who stumbled upon and inheritance or gift and maybe thinks they have something they don't? A little coddling might just be in order and turn such a person into a serious and successful collector some day. Though he made it pretty hard to tell with his "f* you" attitude, this was the message of the original post in this thread. Okay, maybe he was just coming up with a message to allow him to blast everyone, but that doesn't make the message any less valid. Just because Bill Gates comes off as an arrogant *ss doesn't mean Windows is a piece of crap. (Maybe it is, but that really has nothing to do with BG's attitude).
Just so it's real clear - I could care less about its4real hanging around - seems pretty much a jerk to me, but there have been others that I think were treated very harshly for very little reason. True, by a small group, but a new member isn't aware of that. If they get 4-5 hostile responses and no positive ones, why should they hang around? Because, as many have pointed out, there is a monumental amount of great information available on this board. Let's pull people in, not push them away just because they don't know what we do.
I just looked at these 2 under strong magnification and while there is a little feather detail left - most of it has rubbed off.
If you hadn't of bid on the one auction - I could change it to the "almost closest to almost uncirculated Indianhead Cent" or "nearly almost uncirculated" (AKA circulated but Good)"
This response by its4real indicates to me one of three scenarios:
1. Eyesight is poor (you need strong magnification to see wear on these coins?). 2. Has not seen enough coins to know the difference from one grade to another (that can easily be resolved in some part by looking at other auctions to see coins in different grades, of course being careful not to always accept the seller's grade at face value unless of course you do have poor eyesight). 3. This person knows exactly what "its" doing and playing the naive game like other e-bay sellers.
Another problem is the use of terms that have a numismatic definition. The use of these terms in an auction "out of context" is IMO unethical.
So I am not sure if "its" yanking our chain or really just doesn't get it or unfortunately it may be both.
Traderbobz - I stand in awe of your response. It rang true, it was from the heart and I respect you for saying what you did. Regards Bear (I still cant spell worth a darn)
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Who are the secrect society of 8? I, over the last 4 months have only run across 2 people who i thought were rude/caustic/@**holey in their reply. Granted, i havn't read all your threads, or looked at all your auctions, but if you don't like, leave. There's too much learning going on here for you to get in the way of it. If you have a problem w/ a person's opinion, PM them and ask. Nicely. Otherwise, cut the crap and save all of us some time.

A Fine is a tax for doing wrong. A Tax is a fine for doing good.
Its4real basically conducted a poll of forum members for commercial purposes without informing them. This would be considered inappropriate behavior in any field; you don't have to be a professional numismatist to know this, and I would have thought he would have learned that by now in all his other licensed endeavors. Moreover, Its4Real at least indirectly used this forum to advertise a coin that he was about to offer for sale on E-bay. A simple review of a few days worth of threads could have alerted him that this was not proper protocol on this board.
Thank you for an excellent response, and for sharing your experience and wisdom with us. People who are capable of self-reflection are the true learners, the ones who prove that people can and do change.
we all make mistakes... i was upset about 45 days ago about a coin i bought on e bay, paid for with a cashiers check that took over 30 days to recieve. i blasted flykite for it thinking i was getting screwed.when in fact it was at the post office for 6 days because a new postman we had did not leave a notice. all i am trying to say is that people make mistakes,i think this is one that needs to be over with, a new guy made a mistake, we all make em.. forgive.. ...remember a dead clock is right 2 times a day.....
I'm not sure what his situation is and I'm not sure I want to venture to guess.
Its4real, If your reading through these... I was burned a while ago by something that was in "New" and "Unused Condition". I have to admit that I get a little burned up when I see an auction that tries to make an item out to be more than it really is.
In this forum, we have seen so many postings about people attempting to fleece the public. I'm glad to see those posts as I learn what to look out for. Personally I have seen so many auctions where someone is posting the grade of a raw coin and the grade looks way off... it makes me want to 'uke. In your case, anyone here can tell you the grade is F-VF-AU-MS-PR...1..2....5... through 70 but how can you sell it that way when you really do not know how to grade a coin? I'm not even confident enough in my grading skills at this point to place a raw coin on ebay and state what it should grade.
What's wrong with just selling a coin as it is and letting the experts who view your auction decide what it's worth? and if you only receive back what you paid for the coin... then that is the true value of the coin.
IMHO if you want to buy/sell in coins, wouldn't it be in your best interest to learn all you can about coins? If your going to buy, how are you going to differentiate between a coin worth $10 or $100? I'd rather know through experience that the coin being sold for $10 is worth $100 rather than me not having the knowldge and buying a coin for $100 when it's really only worth $10.
I'm trying not to take sides here but from everything you have posted in the past few weeks makes me wonder if you have it all there. My best advice, even though it might be boring or take a good deal of your time... Follow the boards, check out what is being posted, the auctions that are being pointed out and the reasons why they are being pointed out. Search Ebay for graded coins and see if you can learn the differences between all the different grades, read some books on grading.
This is my last post in this and any subsequent (sp) rantings by you. I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do.
thanks for the PM's, guys. this such low cost entertainment that i can't pull myself away to go finish cleaning the truck interior!!! after seeing the BST thread it's easy to figure who can be on the list of the naughty nincompoop's. what really busted my chops was that the very first posters were the two youngsters, LW and airplanenut!!! proof positive of the effects that hangin' your hat at the forum can help with grading skill improvement.
hey dakra, thanks for the link to the dollar-----i haven't been called a local drunk in a while!!! but i always say if the shoe fits wear it! my advice to itswhatshisname is to apply for a position with mr. hagar in the finalizing department.
Even this thread has a lot of information in it. I'm looking at a 1925 Peace Dollar that I was so proud of rated by ACG. Sorry I can't go on now as I can't see through my misty eyes.
This post has so many divergent opnions that I am totally confused.

What would your slabbed coins be worth if the grading services went out of business? What would your coins be worth if the Internet was taken offline for good?
I would think that someone who has held so many different sales positions would understand that there are a lot of different kinds of people out there, and that is what makes the world go around. I guess if that is not understood, maybe it is the reason that there have been so many sales positions. Why not sit back, shut up, and let things work out. Enjoy the personalities on here for what they are. Lighten up.
We have all seen this before. its4real has sold everything and knows from experience you do not have to know $hit about a product to sell it. So why take the time to learn? Like he said he is not a collector, he is a salesman. Its all in CREATIVE advertising and how you package and present it. There are many ways to manipulate and distort the truth without technically being a liar. Yes knowledgeable collectors/consumers will see through it, but that is not the type of buyer they are looking for. Salesmen see knowledge as power, the fact that they may not have any is irrelevant because they are in an authoritive position where consumers assume they do. To them a lack of consumer knowledge is viewed as an opportunity. People with knowledge are a threat to them because they run the risk of being exposed for what they really are.
The best defense is a good offense.
Trying to get its4real to see the perspective of a collector/consumer is like trying to get a car salesman to explain the difference between an engines size and its horse power.

I have steered clear of this whole flaming thread about this character until now. See my post in his "Even Trolls learn" thread. He has not learned! He does not seem to care to learn His practices are those of one out to make a fast buck, not to build a business with satisfied customers. I am sure glad I never bought any securities, real estate or insurance from him.
<< <i>Hey Dorkkarl, My opinion about accugrade is that they are the worst of the worst. >>
THAT is a statement that i can gladly agree with. you expressed and opinion, and everybody needs to respet that.

They know what they are doing. We can't bash them enough. Selling ACG coins is dishonest, deceitful and poor business for the future of the hobby. >>
here, i gotta disagree, because it sounds like a blanket statement. i can personally vouch for several small-time dealers that really did think ACG was A-OK. they've learned. they've moved on, though a lot of them are still stuck w/ some of the ACG material. if you ever see "bruce" at a show, you'r gonna see much ACG plastic in his case, and he'll tell you right out that he thinks there overgraded. he's learned i just think that a statement that "all dealers selling ACG are deceitful" is as misleading as saying "ACG provides the most accurate and accepted grading in the business". both statements are untrue, and equally damaging. especially to the novices that wer're trying to help out! AGAIN, i have bought a few coins in ACG plastic, probably at least a dozen in actuality, but i have learned that MY OPINION differs from theirs very frequently. that does not make me state that all dealers with ACG slabs are crooks, though!
<< <i>Disclaimer--some people do sell ACG holders and say the coin is overgraded. I think that is acceptable >>
thank you, you got it exactly right.
i do not recommend acg any more than i recommend pcgs, which is basically, not at all. as most everyone knows, i'll continue to say "learn to grade for yourself".
one more thing i'd like to respond to. someone mantioned something about many postings about people trying to fleece the public. bottom line is that of all the billions (?) of ebay listings, and extremely low number are mentioned as "scams", and i doubt that any where near all the "scams" really are scams. shill-bidding, yes that's a scam. someone's auctions that always go "hot", but all their items have "private bidding", probably a scam. but someone posting a coin at a different grade than what you think yet providing all the info, including an excellent digipic so you can form you opinion? NOT a scam, in my opinoin. i just decide whether i like the coin or not, and move on.
final note: all in all, this forum is pretty darned good, if you ask me. AGAIN, though i don't care for their grading service much, BEAUCOUP KUDOS to coin-universe for providing this forum.
I find it interesting that all of its4reals other sales careers are liscensed. The reason they are regulated is because so many lying cheating scuzzy deals in real estate, securities. stocks, etc have cheated honest innocent little old ladies out of their life savings, that the government had to step in and handcuff the bad guys. So far this hasnt happened in the coin industry to that point. Although coin vault is getting close. If the shoe fits........
The downturn in stocks and other "prime" investment areas have sent the brokers scurrying into other fields. Coins is just one of the "lucky" ones. While a license is not required to sell, the knowledge needed to effectively deal in coins takes years and even decades to assimulate. There's no quick program to get you up to speed in 6 months unless you want to work as in intern for a major company for free. Even so, I doubt they'd take you unless you demonstrated a true love for the field. Most educated people can earn a stock broker's license in several months. Forget that when it comes to coins. Smarts is no substitute for experience here.
The forum is one of those few places where newbies can get some real facts and information to enter the coin market w/o automatically getting there head handed to them. Unfortunately most of us have paid dearly over the years for our knowledge. We don't like to see every new collector have to pay those dues. Back in the late 1980's there were financial planners and antique dealers popping up left and right who knew nothing about coins that were "dealing" in them. Expect to see more of this in the future if the overall market strenthens.
