Long Beach "Show and Tell"

braddickbraddick Posts: 23,963 ✭✭✭✭✭
Alright, with Long Beach coming up it's usually right about now someone gets a Thread or two started about a get-together. A day is set aside and the location is usually by the snack bar.
Now, I propose we put a small twist to this. Let's all bring five or ten of our favorite coins to Show and Tell! I love the conversations, but it would be fun to see the COINS!
I missed the Bar-B-Que a couple weeks ago (my wife had birthday plans for me on that day-) and would love to pick up where all of you guys left off then!
So, how about Thursday, right around noon or so and bring your favorite small bunch of coins.
Deal?
Remember, only "Box A" stuff too. (MS66 State quarters are banned.) image

MS66 State Quarters? Like we could ever afford those! image

Me too. My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. image

The only problem with Show & Tell is being forced to walk around with them for the rest of the day or put them in your car.

I agree. No one wants to lug around a bunch of coins and that is why I suggested five to ten. Half a PCGS blue box.
That gives you a chance to fill up the other half at the show!

I have a ballpoint pen with the a little clear window in it. Inside, there is a little cutout picture of the Queen Mary that floats back and forth in front of the city when you tilt the pen.

Would that count for show and tell? image

It says "The Queen Mary, Long Beach, California" on it, I believe. That's probably the closest I'll get to Long Beach in the next few decades, living on the other coast as I do.

I do look forward to showin' off the Holey Coin Vest at the 2003 FUN in Orlando, though...

This is not a problem if the coins are sewn onto your clothing. image

To Lordmarcovan: That sounds real pretty! I bet it's fun to just stare at it, as the little tiny boat just floats lazily back and forth and too and fro. You could spend hours doing so...

To All others: ((It appears LM is entering NB Status. I suggest we treat him kindly and with kid gloves as he experiences this normality.))

Nut Ball? C'mon, I might even give up my Queen Mary pen to whoever tells me what "NB" stands for.

Nah, on second thought, maybe not. It's a pretty groovy pen. I like to make the little ship inside it sail back and forth and back and forth and back and forth for hours and hours and hours. It's really cool when it sails backwards.

Besides, my Dad gave me that pen. image

No, no... it's an "Open Forum" joke.
    NB= Nervous Breakdown.

We all get them. Greg's had two and Keith had one about the same time I did (both approaching the 10,000 mark).
TJ holds the record though. He's had five, and still counting (although he'll only admit to four of them...).

If you count manic surges in my squalid, bipolar existence, or caffeine buzzes, I imagine I could put TJ to shame... image

    Which day at Long Beach???

Also, what's this prejustice with slabs? What's wrong with bringing some raw stuff? I've got a nice Roosey and Kennedy set I could show! Something I forgot to do at that picnic....

How about meeting in the early evening on the first day open to the public: Thursday?

  • I can't make it there until Saturday. It sounds like there will be lots of us going. Maybe we can have two show and tells, both Thursday and Saturday?
  • I created a poll to see how many people are going each day. A thursday and saturday meet would work good.

Not sure how to vote. I'll be there Thrus, Fri and Sat. Whenever...

Cam: Yes, we met. I was with John Ruiz (Strat) at the time.

Raw coins are fine (my original post makes no reference to either-)! Let's see the COINS!

I suggest Thursday at 1:00PM by the PCGS table. That'll be the meeting place and then we can go from there (probably over to the snack bar area as there is generally more room and they've got tables set up).

Thursday's good and then pick a second day for those who can't get out of work that day.
I generally don't make it up Saturday because I've found the coins I buy are just that much more expensive having been flipped through a Dealer's case a couple of times.
Either that, or the 'good stuff' is gone.

  • Your welcome to meet up at our table #651.

  • It looks like many people will be at the show, but at various times and days. So.....anyone going to the show, look me up at the Spectrum table or have me paged. We also can consider dinner meetings after the show on Thurs. or Friday.

It sounds fun, but I'm afraid even my best coins would pale in comparison to the rest of those attending. I'd be kinda embarassed to show my stuff. Could I just drool over everybody elses and leave mine out of this?
