What is the number one reason you come here?

airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,148 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have lots of reasons for coming here such as:

to get advice
to ask questions and to learn
to buy or sell some nice stuff
to laugh at funny auctions
to help other people with their questions
to see droolerific coins

but my number one reason...

YOU! image I must say, if it weren't for the people, I wouldn't be here anywhere near as often... I went to other forums and hardly go there since the people are starting to make complete cliques and talk only nonsense...

here the people are awesome, so I would never leave... why do you come here?

Jeremy

PS- that is also a big THANKS to all of you... we need a group hug, *sniffle* *sniffle* image

Because I live such a boring life. Other than that I enjoy it. Suppose since it is now hunting season, I will try to get out of the house a little more.

I want to say coins and people, so I will say definitely the coin people. I learn, laugh, empathize, get mad, but mostly just enjoy the forum members comments and insights. The coin knowledge is second to none. I am always finding out the neatest facts and info. I am so glad I found the forums. Markimage

Now I don't want ya'all getting a big head or anything but I come here because I have learned more about coin collecting in the past 5 months here, than I did in 30+ years before that.

The volume of expertise on this board makes it quite enjoyable to come here to read and enhance my knowledge.
  • To learn.....

  • I need someone to talk to about coins no one around here seems interested enough to listen to me, but thanks to you guys i can blow off my steam here
  • I would say mostly to read, learn and maybe help out someone else if I can. The laughs are good too. image

I love your threads, Airplane. It's fun to get to know everyone thru your questions.

I came here to learn, learn, learn. You all know my sibs and I inherited lotsa coins from our dad, and none of us knows anything about them! I'm having fun learning about coins (not to mention human nature) on the boards.
  • Because my wife does not like to talk about my coins.
  • I'm with Bustman - right on!
  • I come here 'cause if there is anything going on in the numismatic world, someone here will have posted a thread on it and we can all know what is happening about our beloved coins.

To know what people think about the hobby. Sure it's entertaining, and addictive, but
knowing what collectors are thinking is invaluable. This certainly isn't representative
of the overall hobby here. But almost any idea that almost anyone in the hobby can
come up with will appear here first or at least soon after.

Until I found this nice place the number of people I knew that could give more than a rats wrinkle about coins was zero. Oh sure, everybody has some old coins, maybe a small hoard, but never anything that I now consider nice. This group, this place, the self moderated camaraderie, and the knowledge base within these threads is amazing. Maybe only written by a few, but read by many, in it's own way has changed the collecting community as a whole (911 fund is one example) and I enjoy being a small part. Plus I don't have to subscribe to the rags for the news.

This board counts among it's membership some of the best hobbiest/collectors/dealers in the coin realm. It is possible to have questions answered in seconds that would take days of personal research, and it gives us all access to experts that would be unavailable to most of us through normal channels. It's also about the fraternity of the hobby, whether we laugh, fight, bite or commiserate. Lastly, I love the pics, and get to see other peoples coins.

This board is an ongoing treasure hunt ... you cast out a wide net, rake it all in and evaluate the useful, the humorous and the wise and put them to good use, while hoping to add a nugget of your own once in awhile. Sure, periodically, you drag in a lump of coal, but, on balance, I enjoy the cyber friendships and expertise involved on this board. You all are a great bunch!

all i want is one of Bear's "growls of approval" per month.

    that's all i'm here for.

(psst, hey Bear, it's been a while. hint hint)

  • I joined to learn......... which I have and contnue to do. The level of correct direction I received in pursuing this hobby was and is a great benefit I did not know I even needed.
The attitudes and willingness to help I get from the more experienced members was a bonus I never even thought could happen.
And now that I have been around a while I have actually been able to answer a question or two so I feel I am part of the group.
I visit the forum every day.... where ever I may be in my traveling......... I have never found once that I did not read at least a few threads that were intersting and for me educational.

I will be on here until I get thrown off.LOL

  • To meet other collectors, to read, absorb and learn everything I can about coin collecting, especially toned coins. There are so many knowledgeble experts here on this board that are willing to share with others. Here in NE Georgia there are not many shops, clubs or shows, so I learn and seek advice from places like this and from coin related magazine subscriptions, so members like tonelover, tom b, morganluver, bear, braddick, russ, and many others you have my thanks and respect!!!

  • I come here to learn as much as possible. Lots of enlightening threads, and even the ones about series I don't
collect are educational. Of course the entertainment value is often quite high. I also learn who not to buy from
as well as who is a good seller by word of mouth. And last, I scan the BST board everyday in case someone is
selling something I can use. Buying from fellow board members is more comfortable in many cases than dealing
with strangers. (Not to say that some members aren't strange) image

  • Geez, my number one reason?
Originally my #1 reason was to learn from you guys.

But seeing how you guys can point out a scam, point out rediculous prices, some of the Deb Saga, the its4real saga... there are some really great stories here.

Come to think of it, Learning from you guys is still #1!

For all the reasons already mentioned. A place to talk coins, to learn from experts, to see photos of great coins, to help a newbie when I can, to buy a coin once in a while.

How could I ever have "met" so many experts without this board?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

The reason I come here is for the horror of coins.
I'm sorry I meant the aura of coins.
