Zardoz -- You better watch out. Word has it that Ian has a Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka up his sleeves for you.

And he has the ring bell from the top rope (a la Randy Savage to Ricky Steamboat) ready for thegemmintman.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • MS - are you saying Zardoz and I would be tag team partners? That would be quite a site image.

Ian - welcome to the 3-D "K Corner". Your decision is a wise one as you will now be full of joy and happiness for the rest of your life image.

You just became part of the cool crowd

Crowd/Cult, not much difference when it comes to the hypnotizing effects of Kelloggs 3D.

BTW, I've been seduced into doing the 70's Kelloggs football. Woe is me.

Anything from Oklahoma -- its best when Zardoz dresses up like a real life Horlen slab...
Where have you gone Dave Vargha
CU turns its lonely eyes to you
What's the you say, Mrs Robinson
Vargha bucks have left and gone away?

    hey hey hey
    hey hey hey

  • << <i>Do you guys have a theme song? >>

NickM - that's an excellent idea. I vote for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". I mean we're tripping out on 3-D as much as the Beatles ever did with that song. Please see my analysis at the end.

"Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
    A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
    Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
    and she's gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
    that grow so incredibly high

Newspaper taxies appear on the shores
    Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
    and you're gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
    The girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

As you can see there are several references to 3-D:

    marmalade skies
    kaleidoscope eyes
cellophane flowers of yellow and green
greenplasticine porters with looking glass ties

  • Gemmint Of course you are aware that this song has the initals LSD which obivously stand for Like Sorry Dude you HOrlen just came back PSA 7....image

  • Luxury - LMAO, that is just too funny man!
  • I'm hooked!!!! I picked up 10 1970 Kellogg's at the local card shop, and have decided to do the entire run of Kellogg's form 1970- 1983. I curse the pushers Gemmintman & Zardoz. I've since picked up the '81 & '82 sets. HELP ME..............................image

  • I would have added more to this topic, but I just viewed my set while singing our new "theme" song,.....lost track of time..........the colors man!.........like so happening!..........a total groove..........

THE FLOGGINGS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES
  • So which one of you got the Mincher in PSA 10?
I saw on the population report that it was now listed as 1 of 1?

He's been one of the toughest to locate in the 1971 set too.

    1971 Kelloggs and 1961 Fleer

  • << <i>I curse the pushers Gemmintman & Zardoz >>

Welcome 49erfaithful! Your decision to enter the 3-D fold is a wise one as you will now be full of joy and happiness for the rest of your life image.

From now on when anyone joins the Kellogg's Karnival we shall toast the newcomer with a song...

"Ian in the sky with diamonds..."

"Fabfrank in the sky with diamonds..."

"49er in the sky with diamonds..."
  • Zardoz - the Surgeon General warns against viewing your Kellogg's cards and singing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" at the same time. Hey it's your life man. Do what you want, but do us all a favor and don't drive afterwards.

I occasionally see packs on ebay. Are these packs easy to see the cards that are in it other than the top and bottom. I know that on some Rack Packs you can slide the cards around to see other names, and the pictures of the Kelloggs appear to be similar.
    Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s.
    54 Red Hearts
    and now 64 Stand ups
  • LJB17 - The packs on Ebay are cellos and you can't see the cards in between. I haven't opened one in a while, but as I recall you can't see the bottom card either because the iron-on patches in the cello block your view. Maybe someone here has opened one recently and can be more certain.
  • You can really only see the top card in the packs you have seen on EBAY... I have bought 3 packs and found about 50-60% have a shot a getting a 9 ( I won't try and guess a 10 .) I am getting ready to send in a submission for the registry special....

Thank you for the information. You guys may have hooked another one. I like putting together the smaller sets, so this one intrigues me. I am currently sending in a large group of 1977 Cloth that sort of fall into the same group as the Kelloggs do.
    Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s.

  • LJB17 - ok, but we can only give you a partial welcoming song since it's not Kellogg's you're collecting...

    "LJB in the sky..."

When you convert to Kellogg's let us know, and we'll upgrade the song.

  • Wow, I leave for one day to get DSL and boy! A whole thread is started and someone talks about wrestling without me! First off, I'd like to thank Zardoz for the excellent deal he cut with me on the cards. I bought a lot for a set price, which was a deal in itself, he even through in an extra 9. Class act, almost as classy as Dom sending me those 1968's for nothing image. But once again, yeah, I am in this with the rest of you guys. Note: My e-Mail is no longer ianthegreatone73@msn.com, I'm with RCN right now, as of now though, I have no e-Mail. By the way, Zardoz resisted my best efforts to trade him a 1987 Topps Hulk Hogan PSA 8 for a Horlen PSA 9 image.

Mark My Words - I'll be the first to escape the evil grips of the '70 Kelloggs clan, although my set is at 49+% in 9's, I see the day when I am free from the '70 Kellogg's carnage, it will be a day of freedom and sunshine...jay
  • Jay, I don't like that kind of talk. Please put on your 45 of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and view your Kellogg's cards all at once. Your wife may find you passed out on the floor, but you will gain a more positive perspective going forward.
  • I find it more helpful to Play my 45 of Lucy backwards ...

Strangely it contains the following hidden message over and over:

Sell all your 10's to GEMMINT
Sell all you 10's to GEMMINT...

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... it's about learning to dance in the rain.
  • LOL, do you think radio stations across the country can be persuaded to play it that way?

    image
  • I am sure with gentle persuasion from your side kick Mini-Me this could be arranged ... However Zardoz respectfully requests you leave his MOJO alone!

I have a feeling I am not going to be toasted by Gemmint when I register this set later this month because I think its a "modern" set.
  • Davalillo

I will take issue with the modern vs. vintage category when it comes to this set!

However, in an act of magnificence on my part, I shall put that aside and welcome you the Kellogg's brotherhood.

Thanks Zardoz, I don't mean anything personal by it--its just how I define the set....and you better not welcome me until I officially close the transaction which would be at the end of the month.

    Davalillo
  • Being in my 50's, I would prefer NOT to think as 1970 as being vintage. Reality dictates otherwise as my children do not hesitate to tell me just how ancient I am. I should have sold them for medical experiments when they were small.

If your transaction does not materialize, send me an email and I will start you on the road to fullfillment and bliss as a 70K collector.

THE FLOGGINGS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES
  • Davalillo - well I knew you had an interest in the set so it won't be a total shock to me, LOL. I am disappointed though that you have decided to downgrade the '70 K set from "semi modern" to "modern". At least you considered it "semi" for a while.

If you do register some cards, you will still get Gemmint's accolades but with a disclaimer image.
  • Nice thread. I bought my first set last week although it was an 1980 set. Still in the factory Box from Kellogs or whom ever mailed it for them. I am starting to get the bug myself regasrding the cards.

I was just kidding but now this is war.
  • being the guy in the #2 spot (who incidentally has given up on ever becoming #1), and having submitted copious quantities for encapsulation, I must stand back and chuckle at this challenge.

I hate this set but I will try to collect it in 10 to defend the honor of all those who consider collecting Kelloggs on a par with collecting 1981 Fleer(lol).
  • Go for it. After you have spent an amount comparable to the GNP of some third world country and failed miserably in the attempt, perhaps you will gain some respect for those that have gone before you in the noble effort to collect this classic VINTAGE work of art.

  • << <i>I hate this set but I will try to collect it in 10... >>

Davalillo, how can we possibly welcome you to the Kellogg's Karnival if you HATE this VINTAGE set?

  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
Jay told me he would only sell me his partial set if I used it as a base to knock off gemmint and zardoz so I think I have to try. And calling possibly the most underrated player of all time Vic Davalillo--Davadillo--that alone is enough to take up the challenge.
  • Hey I did fix it before you posted because I'm a courteous kind of guy.

BTW, Jay's cards are forgeries since he got them from Zardoz. Zardoz anticipated this sneak attack/Jay alliance and sold him the fake stuff.
  • Jay? betray the cause? You must have bribed him with a box of donuts.
