Grade this Morgan

I was lucky enough to come upon a 1882-CC Morgan with a toned reverse. Please be so kind as to take a look at it and give it a grade. There are 2 sets of scans. The detailed scans have been darkened so that the details show better, but it also darkened the toning on the reverse. The toning is very nice with the whole prism of colors from light violet on the right, through blues, greens, and yellows, and finally turning to a bright red on the left. The toning is actually more of a bright toning and not the kind that looks almost black until you put it in the light a certain way. The obverse has some toning on the left edge, fading to white at about the hairline. The reverse is almost mark free with a loupe, the obverse has some small marks, the most noticible being the small mark to the lower right of the nose. The luster is also very nice. What would the value of this coin be in today's market?

It looks really nice - especially for a CC dollar. I'd guess MS66 based on how clean it is.

The pictures looks grainy (lots of little boxes at low resolution). I can't put a grade on it.

It is pretty, perhaps Gsaguy will chime in. Looks to be a 64 to me, the detailed scan needs to be done at a higher resolution for me to really tell.

I'm suprised at you guys. I've seen you give grades on grey coins with photos that looked like faded postage stamps, but none of the resident experts care to venture a guess on this one. Thanks a lot!

It's always tough if not impossible to grade from a scan. From what I can see I'd venture a 64. Maybe you can darken the pic a bit. Seems like an awful lot of glare. Great toning BTW. Is that a GSA?

It's a GSA. I don't think that I can provide a better scan with the scanner that I have, but I'll give it a shot.

Is there a scratch or die crack at the stars across from the lips on the obverse or is it the picture?

The fields look pretty clean. The marks on the cheek keep it from a 65, in my opinion. I would also grade it a 64.

And it might just be the glare but I could not call it 64.

Really bad photos for attempting to grade. It look uncirculated. Probably a MS63 at best.

The picts look good enough for me to tell it is well struck and the numerous marks on the face are minor and make it a MS65 VAM 4. Cool coin!!

Looks like she got punched in the cheek...

I'll go MS-62+ thie pics rarely lie but they also hide a lot of detail and these pics aren't the greatest. The golden hue on the obverse photo will hide a lot of the contact marks, as will a totally flourescent scan.

Wish I could go higher but the only way would be to get out grandma's magnifying glass and have a look myself
