This coin was listed in an auction that just closed, but didn't get bid up to the reserve. It ended at $142.50, and I had a proxy max of $150. The seller has eMailed me and informed me that the reserve was $155 and offered it at that price. They are out for the weekend, returning Tuesday, so I have a little time to seek advice from the best - you guys.image

As you know, this is the pricey one in the short set. I REALLY like the look of this coin. It has the usual weak strike, but man does it have luster. It does have a bit of skirt chatter, but according to the seller, it also has very few other marks for an MS64.

What do you guys think?

It is very nice looking. Is that a scratch on the eagle's neck extending down?

    Joe.
  • Solid MS-64. It is a weak strike like you said, but typical. It does have alot of luster, especially on the reverse and looks like a nice coin. As for the pricing, I don't know walking liberty half dollar values, and maybe somebody else can look it up.

Blue is $135 but this coin seems far nicer than what you would expect sight unseen...I say go for it unless you are a freak about strike. You should be able to find a slightly better strike in a 64 but finding it with the luster and surfaces that this one appears to have would be very difficult.

No comment on the grade. I don't understand this seller.
If he sells outside of eBay he dosen't have to pay the juice to eBay.
I would point that out to the seller and offer your previous max bid.

The $155 that the seller is looking for is right around the range these have been bringing on eBay and Teletrade. But, none of the past sales I've seen have had the appeal this one does, so this is the first time I took a shot at one. I was actually going to save the 41-S until my last purchase for the set, but when I saw this one, the urge overcame me.image

EDIT: Placid, the $150 max that I had set would be my offer if I decide to move on it. The seller doesn't know what my max was.

Russ, if this helps grey sheet bid price is at 155.00. Since he wants to sell it off ebay I would make him come down some.

Looks like an eye appealing coin.

Edited to add, Am I seeing something on reverse at about 7'oclock.

Could be lights. Anyway fair amount of skirt chatter and looks like a few hits on reverse in field. But if it's a blazer it's probably fine for the price.

    stman,

You mean that thing that looks like a groove above the S? According to the seller, it's a reflection. That was one of the first things I noticed and one of the questions I asked while the auction was running.

Thats a nice looking coin for a 64 I would be a buyer at $150. Unless the lights are hiding something. Get a return privilage. Don't let the marks on the leg bother you. They were on the planchet before striking. This is common in this series on weakly struck coins. Looks like a die crack through IN and another through the eagles breast.
  • That aint no 64, 63 at best! It has too much chatter also.

Russ, yes above the S and below. But I think it's on plastic. I knew you had to have seen it . I collected these for a lot of years.

I would buy this coin. Weak strike goes with this year. Now if it was a common date P mint, too much chatter for 64.

    WSM,

The grade can't be wrong. It is in a PCGS holder. You know, that company that you worship? The company before which you genuflect at the very mention of their name? The company that has provided you with that big fat brown spot on the end of your nose?

    Russ, NCNE

  • I dont care who graded it, it aint no 64 in my opinion! I never said PCGS was perfect!
Wallstreet the brown nose reindeer, had a very smelly nose, la de da de da de da.......
