As of today, no more W designations from NGC.

In the newsletter today, NGC said effective today they would no longer use the W designation for white coins. They sited the lack of collector/dealer interest. Round one to the toners. I do however love their airtite slabs for my copper coins, since ugly toning can't be removed sucessfully. I hope PCGS goes the same way. PCGS has a better looking slab. IMHO. BTW - I noticed alot more parity in pricing of PCGS/NGC coins in the most recent Bowers & Merena catalog. Are we approaching pricing parity? Is it more about the coin when dealing with more expensive pieces? I prefer PCGS for moderns and like their grading standard better for these coins, but it seems both services are on a pretty even footing with classics. Anyone else have an opinion?
PS - I love attractive toning, just not the cruddy kind.

I would agree with you re uncirculated 19th century silver coins. Don't know about the rest (gold & commems).
