Grading Turn Around Time

Alright, I sent my first batch in, 11 coins total 4-free 7-paid Modern. PCGS received them yesterday. Any ideas from the more experience submitters how long this process will take with and without fingerprints? image And can I check the process as it develops through their website?

Thanks
Michael

  • I don't think fingerprints take any extra time image

If you are like the rest of us you will be checking the PCGS website frequently. You shouldn't see anything there for a week or more. Some people get coins graded in a week, sometimes it takes 2 or more weeks.

    Good luck!
  • My latest submission: Received on July 28, grades posted Aug 16, shipped Aug. 19. A little over two weeks.

My latest, received 08.08.02, grades posted yesterday, 08.19.02. But, this was a modern and they seem to be quicker. I have two others, not modern, that arrived on the same day that haven't posted yet. Range for me has been a low of 10 days, and a high of 26 days.

According to them, my submission was made on 8/5 (truth: I handed the coins to them at the ANA convention on 8/1). They were graded on the 15th and shipped back to me on the 16th (I'm hoping to see the package soon).

Latest modern submission turnaround time from date I mailed them to date I received them back was a little less than 3 weeks.

    Michael,

I don't have coins graded often, but it seems if you don't send them in for grading around the time of big coin shows you get faster service. I submitted a dozen coins at a show in Columbus a few months ago and the turn around time was about 5 weeks.

I've sent coins in other times and I've gotten them back in 3 weeks.

My last several 30 working day submissions took about 18-20 working days each. I was pleased. In fact, I have a mess of JFKs (non-proof) waiting for me at the post office. Unfortunately, I have to wait till tomorrow to fetch them. image

I sent in five moderns received at PCGS on Aug. 2 and the grades -- including a PR-66 CAM 1965 SMS JFK I made -- were posted Aug. 14, so that's 12 days. Coins arrived in mail yesterday. A shipment of 13 pre-65 coins arrived the same day at PCGS for economy grading and I am still awaiting the grades 18 days later ...
  • Moderns come back quick but for older coins it takes quite a bit longer. I got a recent modern submission back in 2 weeks and I sent in 3 other orders that were non modern in the same package and they took a full calendar month. The harder the coin is to grade the longer it takes. My Buffs in right now will be 30 days on Friday and a call to PCGS today said they were still in the "early stages" in the grading room while my lincolns have been in hand for a week.
