Question on Capped Bust Dime

Could any forum member answer a question about a capped bust dime:

Is there a 1830 dime variety that does not have the period after the 10 C on the reverse? If so, does the variety have a small or large 10 C and what is the rarity of this variety?

Thanks in advance,
Blackhawk

Blackhawk, There is an 1830 "No period after medium 10 C (Breen 3193) According to Breen it is rare, late die state (drastically repolished die) It is the only 1830 out of three that he documents as rare. I can't tell you what "rare" means though because I don't collect these. CM

Thanks Cacheman. I thought that it possibly would be listed with a rarity scale number so that I could get a better idea of the number of the variety known.

The variety, 1830 Davis-6, is listed as an R-2 in the Davis book, which means it's common. The late die state with the drastically polished die and the missing period may be rare, but I'm not sure that early dime collectors would pay any premium for it.

At any rate some of the items that Breen listed as "rare" have turned to be more common than he thought. But that's how it works. You call something "rare" and everybody starts looking for it. If they find a lot more you were wrong, but really there is not foul. If they don't find any or many, you were right.
