Okay, now which picture do you like...

Here is the #1 and a different one, I like #1, but it just doesn't show the color of the real coin, so that is my concern.

Picture 1

Picture 3

Picture 3 accurately shows the color, while it is more irridescent and shows the dcam than pic 3 shows, the colors are dead on.

  • MNM - Does the coin actually show any of the rainbow colors? If not, I would stick with #1

Picture number 1 still looks like a great coin. The color in the other one is nice, but the cameo in #1 really is a great selling point.

I have got to say, and I'm not trying to be overly critical here, but the photos you provide for your coins, on your website and a couple that I see popping up on eBay, show the weirdest coloration to me. They just don't look real. Are you making a scan of the coins and then trying to approximate what you think they really look like in person by tweaking the color?

You have a 57 dime on eBay right now described as having wild color, and I look at the scan of the coin and it just doesn't look like what coins really look like, IMO. (That's the only way I can think to say what I'm getting at.) I'm sure your coins are nice, and I am not implying any slight of hand. I just get the feeling you are experimenting here (and you do seem to seek out opinions about it) and something in your process is still just a little out of whack.

Perhaps it is unfair of me to be critical and not offer a solution. But, I'm not really sure of your process, or what it is you need to change.
I wasn't going to post this, until you put up picture #3. Now I feel like commenting. I am curious if I am the only one that feels this way. If so, I guess you can write me off as an abberation.

Hey man, I totally understand, I do indeed take a pic and use a program to adjust the picture to what I think accurately describes the coins. I am not really sure what to say though, I try my best to accurately depict the coin...one my ebay auction when the pic is slighted a little differently I describe exactly what is not completely accurate...in no way am I trying to deceive anyone, just trying to get the most accurate pic of the coin. I will say that I do have some wild looking coins, I received many compliments on them at the show in Las Vegas. The only think I can say is let me know what show you are going to be at and if I have any of the coins left you can look at them yourself.

    Morris--
I have no doubt you have some very pretty and originally colored coins. I am not questioning that for even one instant. I also am in no way questioning your integrity. It's not in question. I have read enough of your posts and know you are a member in good standing of the numismatic community. There have been times when you have sincerely, I feel, solicited opinions on photos in the desire to make them as good as possible. I just feel something is still lacking.

The truth is, I can tell your pictures from any others on eBay flat out.
There is just something about whatever it is you are doing that makes them look a certain way. And that way is to me not natural looking. I can look at your pictures and I think I can get what the coin would look like in my hands, but that's about the best I can do with them.

Please, do not take this as an affront to you in any way. I just finally had to say something.
