This is a toughie! I've got to go with Buffalo's. I've collected them my whole life, and I always am looking for nice ones. Half dimes would be second, but it's close. The one nickel series that doesn't do a thing for me is the Liberty nickel series. Jefferson's don't do much for me either, but I have rolls, and rolls of them put away. Waiting for a rainy day I guess.
started collecting in 1964 and nickels were a circulating coin i could easily find in my paper route money. somewhere along the line as i was growing up i became intrigued with the era of westward exploration and the role played in that by jefferson and the lewis and clark expedition. as a result, coinage having to do with all that is a bit of a hotfoot for me. i just wish i could afford some of the gold!! i wait for the lewis and clark bi-centennial with baited breath!!
Hey I am a nickel freak!!! Thats what I collect nickels and lots of them ROLLS, BAGS and saved nearly every nickel since I was a kid 5 full 5 gallon jugs. I collect them all. and have put toghter a complete set of nickels from 1866 to 2002 all in unc grade not the top grades put just ms for example the 1926-s buffalo ms 60 I vote for the jefferson for the hunt of the full steps with Frank Corso. They have been the most challenging and the most nickels in a set to collect. The buffalo is the most beautiful in top uncircualted grades. But on the other hand the half dimes are the toughest and most expensive set to put together in all ms grades. I am working on completing the half dime set in any grade right now and also a high grade lib nickel set ms 65,66. Oh yes need help on my half -cents collection, these are extremely hard to find. Have posted several messages if any body have any pcgs grades half cents for sale or even if they know someone who is selling them to let me know. Even have a set with my email address in the pcgs registry and not one person has helped .
Thanks Bob Stockford
LOOKING FOR FULL STEP JEFFERSON NICKELS PCGS OR NGC
I voted Bison ! The design is a Classic by a Genius Designer, J.E.Fraser He studied under the greats before him.. It has a sturdy tough strong American design lasting may years, the early dates were not deep set enough to withstand the wear but that was corrected later on into the 30s.. It has the rugged individualism so characteristic of Native America..and either side compliments the other. The Jefferson is a fine design but to me it's a political reminder,, It looks Congressional.. and I've seen it for too long...64 years !! Please ! K
liberty nickels!!!! classic designs and issued when the nickel was the workhorse of the economy they are very beautiful coins especially so in ms and proof they are an undervalued series yet an easy set to put together even in ms 64/65 and proof 64/65 have a classic american design i especially like the obverse and the first 5 ceny nickel coin with miss liberty on them also with the controversy wiyh the first one in 1883 without the word cents and the famous `1913 waht is there not to like!! this series in temrs of price to rarity gives the biggest bang for the buck so to speak and they have nowhere to go but up in price and popularity
I really like the Liberty Nickel. I always have. A week or so ago, someone had a thread about the V nickel being Barber's greatest shame. A few days later I went to not my local, but my regional dealer, and he had just completed a V nickel set in AU/BU. It was breathtaking. I realized, at that time, that Liberty is a very pretty lady.
I really like the shields. The design is a sight to behold when found in proof CAM/DCAM or MS. IMO, they offer as good a value as the liberty series, perhaps even more so as the mintages aren't that high.
I answered "half dimes," but among those my interest really only extends to the early pieces from 1792 to 1805 in a very serious sense. I have collected the later ones by type only.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Draped bust half dime, small eagle, PCGS MS68, fully struck, bilateral light antique gold central areas with light bilateral peripheral multicolored toning, blazing luster, offered to me by a guy who bought it raw and just made it, and sent it in just one time.
What half cents do you have, sjbrian, that are going no where? If they are circulated examples from the 1850s that might be so, but the Draped Bust and some the Classic Heads have done very well over the last few years.

I really like the look of the liberty head on the "V" nickel-- I think it is pretty. So I would have to put that nickel first. In second place I would put the Buffalo nickel.
i was refering to stockfords post of needing halfcents. i only have a few dates between 1797-1836. i love those coins in any shape or condition. here's my newest one. just got it on monday. the scan does'nt pick up the detail too well.

Hi Bob It's amazing how terribly heavy all those nickels can get when you have accomulated a few thousands of them. I thank God for my children who have inherited the chore of moving them around for me.
Jeffersons are my choice but I also have a type set. Nothing high grade, just a fine to unc set.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
I voted for half dimes. My grandfather left an 1829 capped bust half dime in EF darkly toned because it was wrapped in tissue paper for years and years. I was astonished by its beauty the first time I saw it. Capped Bust Half Dimes--what can you say?--Beautiful coins, no tough dates, a no-brainer.
Jeffersons, because they can be collected on any budget, and can be a challenge on any budget, it's a long series with lots of diversity and character, and there are lots of great varieties which can be cherry picked or found in circulation. But the main reason I picked Jeffs is that they are still in circulation.
Buffalos - one of the few true classic American coins. A beautiful design that really signifies America!

1. It depicts an Indian that actually looks like an Indian and not Liberty in an Indian headdress
2. The buffalo is right up there with the eagle when it comes to animals representing America.
