I'd rather be...

We all see those bumper stickers that say "I'd rather be doing this" or "I'd rather be doing that"

If you could be doing ANYTHING coin related, what would you be doing? What is your favorite aspect of the hobby?

I would rather be looking at really old coins (pre-1830ish) and thinking of what life was life in that time in history... who might have held the coin and what it could have purchased...

you?

I'd rather be laughing maniacally as I thrust my arms into piles and piles of coins, keeping a lustful eye on my special collection right next to it which includes the complete mintage run of every 1804 dollar, 1895 proofs, 1913 liberty nickels, and other cool ones I stacked ever so perfectly.

NCWS... I see you made no claims to the 33 double eagle... I guess that can be mine image

  • .......going through the large chest of gold and silver coins and paper money I recently discovered under an old barn. The large number of prestine coins which were stashed prior to the civil war would provide me many hours of enjoyment identifying and sorting.

But instead I've gotta go to another boring management meeting................

I'd rather be walking down the aisles of a good coin show, with my wife and daughters right beside me. I would have my eldest just ahead of us calling back, "Hey Daddy!! Look at this!!". That's what I want.

I get that walk every weekend, but its usually through Nordstroms. And I used to think coins were expensive.

I'd love to be waiting to open the vault containing untold treasures - Oh wait, Heraldo did that already.

Seriously, I read once about a collector who purchased an old ghost town property and found an unopened safe on the property that when opened contained several small bags of coins. That would be killer!image Sometimes I think I like the anticipation waiting for grades to post, waiting for the mailman, waiting for the auction to end, waiting to open unopened proof and mint sets. That's fun.

I rather be waterskiing, but since I have become coin nerd, I will search out those elusive Barber halvesimage

For me its the people and the deal. I like nothing better than the bourse of a large coin show and the opportunity to visit and deal and talk about the deal that was made and the deal that was missed. Coins create a strange bond between people of today and the peolple of eras past.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

I'd rather be taking charge of Anaconda's inventory, because he finally realizes that "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to get into Heaven."

    Or something like that.
