ANAAB is no more...

So long. It is now up to the grading services to authenticate coins. Article 30 years and now it is gone.

  • I think it is a good idea to discontinue ANAAB and reorganize it. Right now I think it's losing the ANA money.
  • The time may has come to get rid of it, but I think it really died because a lack of knowledge among the staff. No offense to either museum employees Chris Connell and Larry Lee, but they were thrown into a spot that may not be their cup of tea. If the ANA provided training the ANAAB may still be alive today.

Isn't the ANA essentially farming out all it's coin grading/authentication/conservation to the Collector's Society family of companies? (I.e., NGC and NCS.)

It's like one hand washing the other, and from a biz perspective it probably makes a lot of sense to both parties.

I thought they were farming out their grading and authentication services to ASA-Accugrade?

ASA-ACCUGRADE came in second for those services Greg. They didn't pony up enough money. Some money, but not enough.

No wonder I have so much trouble finding ANAAB certificates. Still I am sorry to see them go but I suppose once the ANA started selling out their endorsement for money to NGC it was inevitable. The ANA never did properly market the firm. Most collectors never even knew it existed.

I case anyone is interested ANAAB used four different varieties of certificate during the roughly ten years they were around.
  • Does that mean there are only grading services now for coins only? Is the Secret Service the only remaining non-slabbing service now?

What would your slabbed coins be worth if the grading services went out of business? What would your coins be worth if the Internet was taken offline for good?
  • Thay's right just grading services now, but I believe ANACS will still do an authentication only service that still slabs the coin. They don't publicize that option much and authentication only slabs are seldom seen.
