Please... help...

I have to read 3 books by the end of the summer... one has an essay, the other two need chapter by chapter journal entries!!!!!!

My mom won't even let my go buy a computer game or anything until I am making "good progress" so I have to be bored until I am done reading!!! (my goal is half a book/day, and maybe I can convince her to get me the game this weekend)...

Please, feel REALLY bad and send me stuff!!! image

Jeremy, the one who can show you it CAN get worse!

    No sympathy here!!!!!!!!!
There is nothing I'd rather do than spend the summer reading. Man I'd be happy. Even if I had to write a report on it.

I don't mind reading... I just like reading books that I completely choose... so long as it is forced upon me, even if it is good, I tend to like it less than if I could read it at my pace when I choose to do so.

When your mother actually let's you buy the computer game, then, and only then, will you have my sympathy.

Coin wise or book wise? I am always up for anything colonial/civil war era (the book I got to choose is from the colonial era, so I'll be reading that first)

Coins... 1804 dollars are good... as are MS buffs, walkers... chain cents...

What are the books they are forcing you to read?
If they are bad choices you'll have my sympathy.

    Girl in Hyacinth Blue
    Tale of Two Cities
The Persistance of Empire: British Political Culture in the Age of the American Revolution (I picked it)

I'd just prefer not to be rushed through the books (according to my mom, the first one is good, and I know the second is a classic)... I like reading slowly and taking everything in, but to be forced to read for school, I have to read stuff quickly, thus I get less out of the books... that's why I don't like reading for school (the better the book the slower I'd like to go)

Since you mention The Civil War... Have you read a book titled "The Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara? It is a historical novel based around the battle of Gettysburg. Very good reading. They used it as the basis of the TNT movie Gettysburg. I would heartily recommend it if you have interest in the era.

You have my complete sympathy on "Tale of Two Cities." I've never been a big fan of Charles Dickens. Good stories but a little too wordy for my taste.

Never read "Girl in Hyacinth Blue" but if you could forward your report to me I might consider reading it.

I haven't read it, but I will keep it in mind...

With coin collecting, I became so involved in the history of the coins (why I like it if its old, don't care too much about the grade)... I started reading books on the time period... and then i was more involved in coins...
good cycle if you ask me image

That is a very good cycle. You are obiviously going about things the right way. I take my earlier comment about the computer game back. When you are done with the summer reading, enjoy yourself, you will have earned it.

  • Ah! New competition for you Jeremy! Maybe I'll head to the coin shop and check their sympathy box, but I can't remember if they're open on Monday or not...
  • Ok, I went to the coin shop and it was closed, so I went to the other one what isn't as good, and here's what I found:

2 WL Halves, 2 SLQ, 2 IH pennies, 3 Buffalo nickels, and 1 V-nickel, as well as 2 silver certs, so if either of you young collectors want any of them, send me a PM, otherwise they go back in my sympathy box.
