Do you ever do this?

moursundmoursund Posts: 3,207 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just took a package of coins into the post office to weigh it, put on the postage, and ship it. It weighed 1 lb, .1 oz. So I opened it up an started tearing off "unneeded" bits of packing material, shaving it down to under 1 lb, so when I added the stamps and stickers it would be exactly 1 lb.

I suppose it makes sense for the 1 lb threshold, but do you ever find yourself doing this in order to be "just under' the next 1 oz, so you can save 23 cents or whatever?

  • Never. I have mine all packaged up. It takes so long to wait in line, I hate to have people stand there and wait while I shred my package.

Well, I didn't have to wait in line to use the postal scale, so I did all my shredding "off-line". image

You're either a cheapskate or just plain crazy.

    Moursund,
I've never done that, but, by the time I show up at the Post Office with reused bubble wrap and reused envelopes I've already saved my $.23, and am just glad to get the package mailed.

  • That sounds like a lot of work for just 23 cents. I think I could make more money looking under the cushions in my couch.

Actually, for the 23 cents, I had this package, and it wasn't quite sealed yet, and I was going to weigh it, and then buy enough stamps to mail it, and it was Juuuuuust over an even ounce increment, so I removed some packing material, sealed it up, and voila...

    What's wrong with that? image

I think allowing only descriptions of cheapskate or just plain crazy is a little restrictive, how about adding a just plain crazy cheapskate?imageimage
