Split in half 1946 Nickel

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 9,330 ✭✭✭✭✭

A forum friend posted quick pics of this a couple weeks ago. He was going through a collection and when he looked at this, the bottom dropped out.
I bought it from him over the weekend because I think it's super cool.
I suppose I should see about getting it in some type of dual slab...

    pcgs does do a dual.

now can they orient the sides to your satisfaction?

It appears to be a genuine planchet error, split after strike.

Who gave it the acetone bath? It looks much better, that's for sure! 👍

Excellent application for a dual holder. Looks like you got the tape goo off.

A wonderful error that I find much more interesting out of a holder where you can study it.

That cleaned up nice, I am glad it was only tape residue and not anything more aggressive. I would keep it raw myself but that's a personal preference, if you did submit it I would definitely try for a dual holder to make sure they do not get separated in the future.

Cool nickel! It would have been even cooler if it was a Henning!
