Pokemon card collectors are rabid as hell, that's for sure.

Thank goodness us coin collectors have better heads on our shoulders.

We're even polite when it comes to mustard stains on our shirts. B)

    Another possible headline:
    "Really, thieves"?

    Two things come to mind:

Either the thieves have been casing the pcgs/psa building and knew when the pickups are being made by FedEx, then follow that truck when it leaves and rob down the road.

Or this was an inside job by FedEx employees and their friends. Driver makes the pickup and stops for a cup of coffee or fuel, comes back to the truck and everything’s magically gone.

Years ago we had the issue of the postal service stealing the packages before they arrived at pcgs, now we have the thieves stealing afterwards once everything is encapsulated.

Since we're on the topic of FedEx, both my recent PCGS submissions came back FedEx with signature required. Both gave me no option to hold for pickup offsite. Both were left outside. I was home waiting and nobody rang my bell for the required signature. Almost $30k in coins left outside.

    Really, FedEx?

PCGS please allow offsite hold for pickup on FedEx shipments!

Good point Mark yet it was really more of a rant than a request for our hosts, lol. My guess is that their postal insurance company requires they ship in a very specific way and nothing any of us says will change anything.

What's to prevent someone from claiming they didn't get the package if a signature is required but was never obtained by FedEx? What proof do they have that you ever got it?

I see delivery people around here regularly taking pictures of a package on a doorstep. Personally, I don't get it (couldn't the delivery girl just pick up the package after taking the photo?) but the delivery services seem to think they're useful somehow.

That has happened. On the news a few weeks ago, someone posted a doorbell video of someone making a delivery and then taking a picture and then taking the package. :D

CAC stickering switched to FedEx recently. Or at least, all of my shipments from them this year have been FedEx, whereas in all prior years they were all USPS. I always edit the inbound shipment and request it be held at the local FedEx facility for pickup. It’s a totally out of the way drive for me, but it reduces most of the risk of delivery shenanigans.

"Officers responded to a trading card authentication company Tuesday about the theft of an estimated $963,000 worth of cards from a FedEx truck................... The theft included two pallets of cards and a third that was “disrupted,” she said."

The FEDEX vehicles you see in businesses and neighborhoods don't carry palletized goods. I am of the opinion a tractor trailer or large panel truck was broken into as these are the vehicles that would carry pallets.
For the thieves to steal two entire pallets and "disrupt" a third makes me think it was either parked at a dock awaiting pick up or perhaps even in the yard of a Fedex facility.
The thieves obviously had a great time to go thru the contents to steal so many cards

I worked in Loss Prevention and Security at UPS for 40 years, and my experience in these types of thefts is where I am forming my opinion

No proof whatsoever. Only the recipient's honesty would prevent such a scenario.

USPS registered/insured is safe; I've found FedEx to be at the discretion of the actual delivery driver. I know the guys locally and I have no fear of problem deliveries but this is a super safe town. I've had to wait around for days in a row because my apartment complex requires a key code and most drivers don't have it except for usps. It's a guessing game sometimes and after 3x of attempted deliveries it goes back to their warehouse.

NGC does the same thing, why use FedEx unless the company has somehow been offered crazy incentives to prefer them over usps priority, etc.?

This is my biggest fear! For me, it's not even the cost! It can take years to find a coin that fits what I'm looking for and to have it get lost on the way to or from the grader is scary...

Meanwhile, my local news has been doing a segment all morning today about CCG (NGC) in Sarasota, showing all of the 6 and 7 figure comic books, coins, sports cards, and memorabilia that go in/out of their facility. Good publicity in some ways, not good in others.

This has become a PR disaster for PSA with tons of online post about the poor offers being received for the stolen coins.
