U.S. Quarter with a Smooth Edge — Possible Mint Error? Weight and Comparison Included

Hello everyone,
I have a U.S. quarter with an unusual edge that appears to be missing the normal reeded pattern.
I would appreciate the opinions of experienced collectors on whether this could be a genuine mint error or post-mint damage.
To help with the evaluation, I will include the following photographs and measurements:
- Obverse (front) of the coin.
- Reverse (back) of the coin.
- Close-up photographs of the coin's edge.
- The coin's weight measured on a scale.
- Side-by-side comparison with a normal U.S. quarter, including the edges.
I have examined the coin and do not believe the edge was intentionally ground down or filed. However, I understand that photographs and measurements alone may not be enough to determine whether it is a genuine mint error.
My questions are:
- What type of minting error, if any, could explain this smooth edge?
- What details should I look for to distinguish a genuine mint error from post-mint damage?
- Could the coin have collectible value if it is confirmed to be a genuine mint error?
- Would professional authentication be worthwhile in this case?
I would appreciate any observations, opinions, or suggestions.
Thank you for your time and help!
