Sometimes we forget about the Isabella quarter which is integral to the Columbus history:
PR69 ...
In 1992, for whatever reason, I must've passed on these and just picked up the gold $5.

This is a medal commemorating the 400th anniversary. Not mine. Just did a search onsite. Beautiful medal somebody owns.

One of my favorite Columbian Exposition pieces struck for the Norwegian Building that imparts a dose of reality (& a little elbow in the Italian ribs). The reverse of this gold plated silver medal with the ominous Viking ship surging forward translates to "Leif Erikson Arrives In America 1000".
Touché.
Mr. Spud posted one of these earlier. I bought this one about 45 years ago. It's in a 2-piece round cardboard holder that I've always believed is how it was originally issued.

Yes, that is an original box. The four different sizes of this medal were housed in two piece circular brightly color coded cardboard boxes. About 30-35 years ago someone turned up a quantity of remainders in their boxes wrapped in circular paper rolls. It was a decent sized quantity that came to market at a Long Beach show and quickly sold out. The medals were absorbed quickly and are probably the source of many of the high grade specimens that are now being graded.
No big deal, but something I should have kept. Paid about $3 and sold for maybe $4 at the time. Silver was low in 2001.

I have a couple of items pertaining to the Columbian Exposition. A portion of the funding was achieved through donations from the public. The top document is an 1891 receipt for a donation of $1.50. $5 million in such donations went toward the creation of the expo. Next is an admission ticket to the exposition, with an engraving of a Native American. Lastly, there are the half dollars from 1892 and 1893.
