Recent raw coin submission experience...

Hi All,
I recently submitted 9 coins - 8 on a club membership voucher, and 1 as a World Express. I've never used the World Express service level, which was mandated by the value of the coin.
My coins arrived at PCGS around August 3rd (and I used the "Find my package" feature to confirm that it was there), and order entry was on August 8th. The Express grade and TV popped on Friday morning August 21st. Not too shabby.
Here is the TrueView, the auction pic, and raw in sunlight for comparison. The TV is OK - not nearly as bad as some I have seen recently, and it captures the coin OK. Not as good as some TVs in the past.
The coin graded as MS61.... it definitely has cabinet friction on high points, but I was still hoping for 62 or 63. Oh well. This was a raw submission so at least it straight graded.
If interested about Corvey abbey and the symbolism:
The saint depicted on this thaler, St. Vitus (or St. Veit), lived around 300 AD and died at the age of seven. Legend has it that his father demanded he renounce his faith. Vitus then fled home. An eagle provided him with food during his escape. Later, the Roman Emperor Diocletian made the same demand. Because Vitus refused to renounce his faith, he was thrown to a lion. But the lion did not harm Vitus; instead, it lay down at his feet. Based on this legend, St. Vitus bears the eagle as his attribute on this thaler and the lion lying at the saint's feet is also depicted.
My Regular Club submission coins though are still stuck at "Order Entry"!

Agree that it looks more 62/3ish than 61.
When I generally think 61 I tend to think “eye appeal issues”…..maybe I’m weird in that way. Your coin looks great to my eyes, though.

I am not familiar with the coin so I really have no specific personal reference to seeing the type in hand. It looks reasonable for an MS grade. Not sure about the actual grade and whether 62 or 3 would have been more appropriate. Good luck with the submission and other coins that are pending.

All in all, a truly stunning taler from Corvey which in itself is an elusive German State. I still think that piece has a bit more in it than 61.
Similar experience with me last week across the street. I thought this 1/2 Mainz taler had potential for a 62 or 63 but graded a 61. It doesnt change my opinion of the coin in any way, but makes me second guess my grading a bit. Kunker, NGC photos, and final slab below.

Agree with @MEJ7070 - I think of 61 as something that has issues, and/or very negative eye appeal. Say an uncirculated Morgan dollar with a million bag marks. But, seems to be applied differently for older world coins.

It really does depend on the series, in most of the series’ I collect a 61 would be an incredible achievement. Any UNC grade is. (Spanish colonial, Bolivia Republic.)
