I don't know if this has been pointed out in any of the other eBay Authenticity Guarantee threads, but it's not great that the sample photo used on the seller FAQ page appears to be...
A coin from the bullion category, which does not qualify for eAG
Won a coin on Sept 19 and it was shipped to PCGS that day. It’s been authenticated and is being shipped to me today. ETA is Monday the 5th. So a littler under 3 weeks. The part that I’m questioning is PCGS is sending it USPS Ground Advantage with no additional insurance above the $100 that is included. I thought they sent via FedEx? Also being a coin over $500 I would expect full coverage.

This "guarantee" program may give the customer a false sense of security, even if they paid too much. What if they want to return it after going through this whole verification process? I hope the guy who bought the Indian cent got a good deal.

The customer will have to pay attention to the listing -- if the seller does NOT accept returns, then it would be a final sale (unless they try the payment-processor route -- but it will be more difficult than in the past to win that because eBay will have evidence of making the purchase with Authenticity and tracking along the way).
Some sellers DO Accept Returns with the Authenticity Guarantee. In that case, they would send the item back to PCGS for their review (that the item is the same as originally purchased). So the Customer needs to pay attention to FINAL SALE vs. RETURNS ACCEPTED.

I guess this one did not pass the authenticity screening test:
It shows up on a search of auction results then goes away when you try to click on the listing. Sold @ $5K! 22 bids.
If the Authenticity Guarantee helped prevent a fraudulent sale of $5K with 22 bids, then that's a very good thing in my book...
Assuming that the coin did not get flagged before it was sold as counterfeit, having a blatantly fake coin in a fake slab like this at that price is higher than I've seen.
I was surprised how quick my coin got authenticated. It was delivered to the authenticator and was already verified and had shipped to me and had been "picked up" by usps 25 hours after they received it. That was pretty impressive.
They do need more authenticator hubs though. A lot of my time was spent waiting on it to ship from the East coast to CA to be be verified and then back to the east coast to me.
Just curious: Under the new eBay program, does the coin buyer receive two tracking numbers? One for the shipment from eBay to PCGS, and a second one for the shipment from PCGS to the buyer?

No. You get a notice it was shipped from the seller to PCGS. No tracking number. You will be notified once it is received at PCGS. After PCGS authenticates it and ships it to you, then you will get a tracking number.

You mean if I want to sit at my computer and click 'refresh' to see if the package is any closer to getting to PCGS, I can't?

Hardly seems fair.
It will update when it gets to different post offices on the eBay page but no tracking number for USPS

Oh, good. I'd hate to think I won't be able to complain about the route the USPS chooses for the package going to PCGS, or how long it's taking.

eBay has been running their Authenticity Guarantee Program for trading cards for nearly five years, they probably have a pretty good handle on program expenses.
Moon knows better. Everything ebay does is either wrong or nefarious. It's laughable.
I am not even quoted here yet you find a way to denigrate me even when you don't list a post by me. Wow.

For now, they are not charging for the service. But they are a publicly traded company so they first will do it on the cheap, then they will, if needed to improve, as for example providing better shipping and insurance for the program, come back to anyone selling or buying on ebay to pay for it. All because ebay never stopped the fraud that has been pervasive and persistent since the platform started. What a hassle IMO.
There are dozens to hundreds of venues online where 100% reputable vendors, combined, sell pretty much everything that is listed on on ebay without such hassle, and, unlike ebay, with a single shipment direct to the buyer with fully insured protection. This might encourage some to look at other venues instead of putting up with the vagaries of buying on ebay.

Was it to a post office box? From what I have seen they use FedEx unless the buyer's delivery address is a PO box, in which case they use USPS.
Don't assume that it isn't funny insured somehow. Many of the other auction houses have outside coverage and intentionally do not fully insure with the carrier.

No, sent to my house, not a PO Box. I couldn’t tell how much insurance was on it and the label didn’t mention any insurance as well as the USPS site. Just dropped off at my mail box. No signature required. This was the 1st time I’ve ever received anything from PCGS that they used USPS. I have another coin on the way from eBay worth a bit more than this one. I wonder what service they will use for it.

Why does any of that matter? Are you thinking you're not going to be refunded if the package goes missing?
edited to add... from eBay's Authenticity Guarantee FAQs:
What do I do if my item doesn’t arrive?
You can report to eBay that your item hasn’t arrived. If you didn’t receive your item, you are covered under eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Was curious what the forum thinks about this...
If you sold two different $500+ coins to two different buyers, could you ship them in the same package to the authenticator? It seems like the mailing labels contain codes to indicate what's inside so not sure it would work, but it seems silly to send multiple packages to the same address instead of combining them.
It appears that PCGS only verifies that the coin(s), over $500, are genuine, not if they are cleaned or otherwise altered. Or am i wrong?
AI answer:
It provides an independent authentication service:
• What it does: Partner experts at the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) inspect eligible coins to verify that they are genuine, match the listing description, and that certified holders/slabs haven't been tampered with.
• What it does not do: It does not assign, change, or officialy certify numerical coin grades for raw coins, nor does it provide a formal grading/regrading service.
• Eligibility: It applies to single graded U.S. and world coins and single raw U.S. coins sold for $500 or more on ebay.com.

Have any costs been announced for this program? If already addressed, forgive me, as I only skimmed most of this thread.
I ask because I noted this message while looking at a coin auction yesterday. "Free for a limited time.":
As of now, I have not seen any costs announced for this service for coins. I would add that eBay has had the "Free for a limited time" note when they introduced the program for Cards about 5 years ago -- they still have not charged for using the program for cards after ~5 years.
Your Role as Seller. By listing an Eligible Item for sale on the eBay platform, you authorize its inspection by the Authentication Partner subsequent to its purchase. Upon purchase, you are required to ship the Eligible Item, with appropriate insurance coverage, to a facility located within the United States, as directed by eBay. Items must be sent to the facility individually unless part of a multi-item order. The cost of shipping to the Authentication Partner is not covered by eBay. You acknowledge and agree that if the Authentication Partner cannot verify an item’s authenticity, a refund will be issued to the buyer and you shall cooperate with removing the item from marketplace circulation.

Can you ask to keep coin there to have it graded or regrade in a slab??
Some of that seems to be an option for cards, but not yet for coins. Maybe in the future though.
