Should a July 4th privy Quarter be added to a type set

What is your thinking about the July 4th quarter being added to a type set collection, or just adding any or all of the 2026 quarters would be enough.

I would think that its part of a type set.
If you dont have it you will be missing a coin that was minted in 2026.
Be patient though. The price will come down.

Could be either. If you treat it like a mint mark, which privy marks are similar to, it's really more of a variety. If you consider it a design element, it's a type.

That would make it part of the year set. I think it's more ambiguous whether it represents a distinct type. There is a non-privy quarter, so you wouldn't be missing a 2026 quarter.

Only if the individual collector chooses to . But only 250,000 of those will have one. How many holes in an album or folder will remain empty forever ?

What is your take on the State quarter series and all the other series that came after them? Should they all be included in type sets? If not, then you have your answer. If so, you might still have questions.

For a type set, it should be considered the same type as the other quarters issued this year, all of which would be confined to a single spot in that set.

Now for a year, mint, and "finish" set, it's an absolute must.

I’m not planning to include it as the motivation behind it bothers me - it’s more gimmick than design element. Once it’s cheap enough I may weaken tho. We’ll see.

I think that's an interesting question. I think it is easier to consider the state quarters as different types than the privy. After all, they each have a different design. Yet, a 21st century type set would likely only include one of each series.

All commemorative halves are considered to be a single type in type sets.

Regardless, a privy is even a less dramatic difference.

I'm going to add it to my 250th anniversary album (I'm still working on it) being i think it fits better there.

I suppose a case could be made, but I like the educational element of the various series. I know I’ve learned something from them. The 7/4/76 quarter is more like the added privies, an obvious gimmick.

Am I ever unobservant! I just realized that the added “July 4” is considered a “privy mark”. I don’t consider privy-marked coins as a separate type. So I absolutely won’t add to my type set. I call these “privy marketing” coins.

Yes, you could make a custom page for the back of your 7070. I made one from a blank Dansco small dollar page. There's really no limit to what you could do.

They surely are gimmicicks to sell circulating coinage to the public for a profit. They do not need a picture to spend for 25 cents. However they do serve another purpose which is to get more people into the hobby of collecting.
Good points and bad points to all modern coinage. Whatever floats your boat.
