^ Would have been a simple matter after the conviction for PSA to state something like; In our earliest days we were duped by a felon -- etc.
The very fact PSA has left it as is speaks to their firms morality. Which once again is why giving preferential treatment to their larger customers aka Good Business cannot be entirely ruled out.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972) Not even a minute do I buy the whole buh buh buh I'm a man-child japery - Me (2025)

It is a good question why #00000001 is still a NM-MT 8.
Because bad attention is better than none at all.
I think the notoriety has actually added value to the card in this particular case.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
The guy who graded the card at PSA also said once that they were all aware it was cut or trimmed at the time and they decided to not declare it as altered to maintain the value of the card. PSA has never made a public statement that I'm aware of on it. It was a different time in the 90s but I still think it's a little weird that it's never been addressed.
Since were talking 1st graded PSA card, ebay's first item was either A laser pointer or a Pez candy dispenser. The story of the company was that a programmer created Ebay so his girlfriend could sell her pez dispenser collection. Rock on!
yes been a few decades since then... remember in the span of 6 decades man went from learning/discovering how to fly to landing on the moon! Now that seems like GREAT progress.
