I know it's not a US coin, but any ideas on why anyone would put these type of holes in this coin?
I've heard they used to sew them into clothing, to hide them, but these are awfully crude holes.
it's also chopmarked as you can see. Just curious if someone has seen this before.

Looks like it was nailed to something (a couple times) using handmade nails.
22lr is usually the smallest bullet people have access to and would give a 5.5mm hole.
Air rifles are .17 caliber... 4.3mm
IMO bullet hole would be larger, cleaner, and indicate which direction the bullet was going based on how the hole bends...
I would guess that someone hit it with something damaging like a claw-hammer.
Llamas and alpacas are camels. They aren't like camels, or related. They are camels. When was anyone going to tell me this?! How long had Bill Nye been holding out on us?
Concho belt?
Hmmm, Maybe, I have seen Piece dollars in Conchos, makes sense for an 8R to be used in a belt of that type, it is also hard to see in the pictures but the coin is heavily cupped too, It might have been also filled with solder.

If this coin had been minted ten years prior and was a United States half dollar it would have RAYS to left and right of the date.
It might have had Arrows next to the date but not Rays.
Have you been out in the sun getting too many Rays?
