I have owned this coin for a very long time, and as a hint, it was originally in an old, small-format ANACS holder... twenty-five years ago? While attribution remains the same, the grade has, um... "changed" over time.
See what you think.

VG-Fine? Possibly from old white holder to the new gold holder at Anacs they were more critical?
F12 details, cleaned.
ANACS SAYS: VG-10 / cleaned, retoned, O-101
I cracked it out of an old holder where it was interestingly graded as Fine details, cleaned, net VG-10. At that time, there was no mention of "recolored", nor has the coin changed at all since being plopped into the album set for 25 years. And on top of all that, I simply had it net graded in my notes as VG-8! So I think it's a wash on this one.

Tough date that you don’t see very often.
I was going to ask if it toned in that old ANACS holder, but since later you mentioned that you cracked it out 25 years ago, you probably don’t know.
Neat coin inspite of the cleaning.
Just curious why you had it graded again after all these years? Nice coin I like it.
Fine-12 sharpness, but the color is funky. The purple is not what you normally see for a piece that's been dipped and retoned naturally.
I agree with you, Bill. The color is irregular and not typical of a coin cleaned and then album (or Kraft envelope) (re)toned.
Oh yeah - great question! I have upgraded to a very-fine example so the coin simply no longer has a spot in either of my album collections. And as mentioned in another thread, I sent a little bit of business ANACS's way in return for them doing a sizable favor for our coin club. Typically, I would not get this kind of coin certified at all, knowing my typical audience (numerous customers of mine collect only non-certified early half-dollars).
