Preserve the Holder?
Update: I will get the coin reholdered. Thanks to all for the input.
Getting ready to send coins in for reholder and trueview. This example's holder is in AU58+ condition. In the past, I have been able to obtain trueviews through the holder in order to preserve early generation holders. Should I do that here?

are the tv stillhit-or-miss
If you just want a TV, just get a TV. If you don't like the holder, get a reholder. I like to find coins in that generation of holder if the slab is in good condition (looks like yours is) but I'm not sure the slab adds any value. I've probably done 80 in-slab TVs and I've never been unhappy with the result due to the coin not being raw.
I think you can take a picture on your phone that’s better than most of the TrueViews these days. I vote not worth sending it back.

do they keep the cert number on the reholder? that is the question. that holder isn't old enough to collect. plus that generation of holder is the "funky" looking one that has people wondering if the holder is counterfeit.
Like MsMorrisine says, that version of holder looks suspect to a lot of people these days. What about the sticker?
CACG takes pretty good pictures... but maybe that isn't an option depending on how you feel about their slabs or if it's in a PCGS registry.

Send it to one of the excellent photographers here who shoot coins in TPG holders. TrueView is a crap shoot.
I wouldn't do either and leave it as is.
What would it cost to get True View pics including insured shipping both ways? Not sure it's worth the expense just to get pics considering there are other options to get pics that are far cheaper.

Thanks for the input. The pool of knowledge on the forum is a great asset.
I was not aware that these holders were considered 'funky' and there could be confusion surrounding their authenticity.
That is a key consideration. I do not want my heirs to have to contend with questions about whether the holder is genuine.
So, I will reholder the coin.
Thanks again to all. Appreciate it.
Shouldn't PCGS have pictures of all the coins they grade anyway? Are trueview available without reholdering?
This is one of the best types of holders in my opinion as the barcode is on the reverse (im not a machine)
It's all about what the people want...
I see no reason to switch holders. Good pics should be able to be obtained through existing slab IMO.
Are you trying for an upgrade? If so, I understand. Also, you'll lose the bean which is a nice addition.
Either way, nice coin and good luck!
You’d lose the bean, as well.
I would just have someone shoot it through the holder.

So would I. Whatever downside there might be in the current supposedly “funky” holder (which I think it’s virtually none) would be offset by the cost, risk and trouble in getting the holder changed and restickered.

There was a time when people shunned small ANACS holders and now some seek the holders.
Old blue holders may be sought at some point.
Personally prefer the more classic holders for aesthetics.
Aside from this thread, as far as I can recall I have never heard of that generation holder ever being questioned or thought of as "funky". It was a well known iteration of the PCGS holder used from late 1998 through early 2002. It isn't so commonly found now, but PCGS even has an image of it on their page for holder history. Given its cert number I suspect the coin was certified in 1999.
My advice would be to get it imaged by someone who knows how to image coins through slabs and forget the hassle and costs associated with PCGS.

I agree with the others. True Views aren’t what they used to be. There are plenty of good photographers on the boards capable of shooting it though the plastic. Tomb is one of them.
