PNNA Show experiences, 10/3/2025

Friday morning I got up just after dawn and I drove into the city and met John @CircCam for brunch before we headed over to the PNNA show. That was really a nice way to kick off the day (well, after my 2.5 hour drive). John is a really good guy for those that don't know him yet ... a dedicated collector and a genuine down-to-earth and humble person. Well, on second thought, he is a little bit out there. He has a weird fascination and belief in Sasquatch. :o

.
We arrived at the show about 12:40 and saw two of my friends from the BHNC who were there for about an hour or so after John and I arrived. They are pretty anonymous guys so I won't drop names, but it's always a pleasure to see and talk with them, no matter how brief, as I really like them both.

I got to talk with the guys at West Coast Coins and see their new stuff (they have been on a roll and really had some fantastic pieces at their table). I also had a longer chat with Kellen while viewing some of their material throughout the afternoon. He and I struck up a conversation at the last PNNA, and I have enjoyed discussing coins with him in our interactions since. We've decided (jokingly) that he is my nephew ... from a completely different family. :D Just kidding, of course, but oh God, thinking about it that way, maybe I should feel sorry for that kid!! :p

.
A bit later on I got to meet Daryl @2windy2fish and Jeremy @airplanenut . Two good guys I had never had the pleasure of talking in person with before. I wish we would have had more time, but Daryl had some customers, and Jeremy was out hunting while escaping part of his work day. Daryl did bring a box of 20 from his collection for show and tell at his table, and he has some really great coins. Thank you guys, it was a pleasure!

Before that I also had a great conversation with another dealer that turned to softball and the Senior Softball Leagues on the West Coast, and I'll be dam***, but I can not remember his name now, and I didn't grab his card. Daryl, I'm sure you probably know who I am speaking about. If you see this and could send me his contact info on a PM I would appreciate it.

I also did sell 1/2 oz of Gold and a roll of Silver Eagles as I had planned. Alex with Bellingham Coin made me a fair offer (I thought) and we both walked away happy.

Finally I struck up a spirited conversation with Bianca at Executive Currency before I left. She's another young person on the business side of the hobby who has a interesting perspective, and strong opinions. She helped clarify some things I think I have seen in currency grading, and she let me look through their latest NEWP's while we discussed currency and coins. She's also been trying to learn more about coins, so maybe I was able to help just a little there too. She certainly helped me. Anyway, it was a nice way to close out the show before I headed out about 6pm to go up to see my Grandson (he lives in Maple Valley).

.
I didn't find anything to bring home from any of the dealers at the show (there were a few coins and one piece of currency that almost latched on), although meeting people, connecting with friends and talking about recent trends in coins and currency made for a fine show. In the end, it as often as much about the people as it is about the coins for me.

I did however come home with a new Capped Bust Half ... and I sold one too. :)

This goes back to @CircCam ... John and I had discussed a coin he wanted for his date set that I had, and so I brought it along. He had also showed me images of a coin he had that he was interested in selling, and he brought it along. We discussed prices while at the show, and agreed to a deal where he got a few dollars in the trade, and we both got a new coin for our collections.

.
Yesterday I got up and continued with Grandpa fun, never making it back down to the show in the morning as planned. That was okay though, as waking up to a warm body crawling into bed with "Grandpa Todd" was a great way to start my Saturday. Later we went to Salmon Days in Issaquah and we had a great time looking at crafts, playing in the playground, listening to music, dancing silly and seeing the salmon spawning up the river.

.
Anyway, here are my images of the new girl that I got from John, along with my description (below)

1835 O-106 (106.1), r.1 PCGS AU58cac

Attractive and original coin with bronze toning and very strong luster. The toning is unusual and yet dramatic in it's own way, changing color and appearance depending on the light. The obverse appears to have been partially covered with folded paper, a ribbon, or possibly tape of some kind. The resulting difference leaving a even diagonal band of lighter toning from s1 and s2, across the portrait and to s8 thru s10, and then another area the extends down perpendicular from the first, across the base of the bust, and encompassing the date, the curls and to s13.

Nice to meet you Todd! You too John!
Apologies for not having more time to chat, the show has been a wild ride up until about an hour before the first pitch of the Mariners game yesterday late it was pretty much non stop.
Loved seeing your killer Bust halves.

Nice report - thanks for your perspective of the show.

I went yesterday - lot's of bullion, most tables crowded. Enjoyed seeing the box of 20 at 2windy2fish's table - the Hawaii 50c piece was a real highlight of the set, PC64 CAC with beautiful reverse toning.

Lot's of long faces at the perspective of the upcoming sales tax and what it will mean for the show. A few out of state people said they won't be setting up again after 1/1/26 - it's a shame.

    Great report!

Lively show, I don’t recall the last time I didn’t get to check out a table due to there always being people sitting down every time I tried on both days, but it happened this time.

Agreed Todd, great brunch and cool to meet @airplanenut and formally meeting @2windy2fish. The 1917 T2 58FH was my favorite of his excellent box of 20, what an electric coin.

Here’s the other side of the trade referenced in the OP; a date I’ve struggled to find with the character I was after:

    1831 O.106 R3 AU50 CAC

I also picked up some silver, a couple large cents for my 7070 and this WW1-era medal with neat imagery from Tipsico coin. The Zimmerman Telegram comes to mind from that era/context, but I’ll have to dig more into the history:

All in all a great show, and hopefully not the last PNNA @ Tukwila (I heard that as well.)

As far as Bigfoot goes, after hearing the bone-chilling sounds of a raccoon attacking a muskrat on my backyard cameras in the dead of night recently (raccoons growl low like a pissed off dog, never knew that), I imagine that people hear things echoing through the woods and attribute it to “Bigfoot” simply because they can’t categorize it and the physics of sound can be deceiving. But then you have stories from former law enforcement and hunters who have no interest in the topic whatsoever until strange encounters occur—I keep an open mind on a few of those since I hike the areas.

I’d prefer to never find out the truth for myself though, and you won’t catch me out there looking for them! :)

Glad you all enjoyed yourselves. Someday I need to get out that way and check out the show and get in on the sweet outdoors activities.

Great read, thanks for posting. I recently bought a “summer” home in the Seattle area, so I plan to attend some PNNA events in the future.

I hit the show on Saturday - hadn't been for a few years, but it's always an enjoyable show. I had a fun discussion with West Coast Coins - they definitely had a lot of great pieces. Must have looked through 50 coins before settling on this piece to upgrade my Seated Liberty dollar.

It is a bummer about the upcoming B&O and sales tax changes. I overheard one dealer mention the show might move to Portland next year which would suck for me - turning a 30 minute drive into a 4 hour one.

Yeah - life got busy until I psuedo-retired early this year. Have had more time to get back into the hobby the past few months.

    Welcome back!! @WACoinGuy

I actually think I remember you from back when! Not in person, just from here. Hopefully we'll meet in person at the next one.
