Trump COIN? proposed by the Treasury Department for issue next year.

This story is now in the news including obverse and reverse designs. Is it actually a coin they are proposing or is it really a medal?
The illustration shown in a USA Today article online shows "$1" superimposed in black over what appears to be a coin design without a denomination.
All glory is fleeting.

"The Treasury Department is considering producing a one-dollar coin featuring President Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence next year".... May not happen unless some laws get changed.
Living people have appeared on some US commemorative coins in the past. Calvin Coolidge appeared in 1926. Senator Joseph Robinson in 1936. Senator Carter Glass in 1936. Eunice Shriver in 1995.
I'm not sure any of that artwork is official.

Unfortunately, the law which states requirements for “designs emblematic of the US seniquincentennial” will allow this to happen despite the preceding legislation prohibiting living presidents from being on the nations coinage.

Long as its not like that $250 they wanted to do a while back now 👎
Count me out - pretty ugly coin
I've seen better artwork on Chuck E. Cheese tokens.
Hard pass.

I hope they will make a gold coin with limited mintage
they could do gold. dunno if people can afford it at these gold price levels
By law, they cannot do a President Jimmy Carter Presidential Dollar yet because he has not been dead for two years
That's under the Presidential dollar coin legislation....
If a DT coin were to be issued next year (and I am skeptical it will happen) it would be under the legislation that authorized the Secretary of the Treasury to issue coins for the 250th anniversary.
Emergency appeals to the SC seem to be working lately to avoid those pesky laws
plus it would take congressional approval now to do the carters' coins
How is this proposed design “emblematic of the U.S. sequincentennial?”
In the future long after we are gone, this coin if made will be highly collectible and emblematic of the curious era from which it came.

Fake news.

If they are produced, they will just be begging to get treatments like hobo nickels and potty dollars.
An image of any living president hardly seems like a visible symbol for the 250th year celebration for the concept of democracy.
We shouldn't have living presidents on coins, but it's absurd to say that an image of a democratically elected president is not a symbol of democracy.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Go back to lady liberty on our coins, they were the last decent designs in my mind. Hasn't been a decent design since the WLH.
Political affiliations aside, that coin is horrible looking and does not represent the semi-quincentennial event in any manner.
Always refreshing to see which relatives would hate me to come to their thanksgiving dinner.

Bring a peace offering. Maybe the new DT dollar coin. 😇
Ah, old glory with those wonderful 11 stripes…

And that field of about 30 stars fits right in.

so, you think this should be reserved for some kind of vault box?
Why should it be closed? This is a coin-related thread is it not?
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
if approved, there would be 2 term dollars and two term first spouse
...because this is all somehow normal now...
If you really want a bad coin design I vote this one...............
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
How about a coin honoring the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Fort LaGuardia, where General George Washington captured the British airfield?
Fitting that the $1 looks like black Sharpie
no wonder it needed an upgrade
So far as the Murray quarter goes I think the design is quite original and like it.
Why? It looks like she's either in Jail looking out or outside looking at people in Jail!
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Bet it doesn’t happen.
bet it does
Oh no. Gosh, still living in the past. Time to move on. 😴

I prefer politics stay out of the US Coin forum.
Between this coin and the 2017 lady liberty coin, I can see a scenario where going forward after Trump is no longer President there are no longer any people, whether it’s dead presidents or lady liberty on a coin. I can easily see a situation like the more recent American Liberty coins where we have horses and sunflowers symbolizing liberty and eagle reverses in lieu of portraying any person whether real or allegorical.
Either way I saw Trump being portrayed on a coin coming the moment he won the Presidency in 2016. If this didn’t happen, then something else would’ve that would’ve been a more fervent push than the push to put Reagan on the dime.
Are there 2 different Grover Cleveland coins?
Yes

People shouldn't be on coins or bills, but it is way too late for that. Who the is Pauli Murray other than some political statement just like the rest.
Do we know if the 250th Dollar is going to be large silver or small Sacajawea type?
I think PCGS should create a whole other category for political coins and medals. This would help to eliminate the politics in the US Coin category. JMO
