Do you think this one is more recently struck or has just been floating around for a while unnoticed? I have wondered if they retire the transfer dies after a set amount are made or if they keep them to use again for future strikings.

I think past struck; the group doing them is known, reported to Secret Service and all seller names removed from the bay several years ago. I believe these are floating around; when I see it in-hand and get the cert number we should be able to see when it was slabbed...
Wow, if one did not look closely at this auction, I feel many might miss its diagnostics. The holder is amazing to me, with no knowledge of anacs holder diagnostics, if known.
Please message me the sellers name, if you would.

Are they all overstruck on genuine coins? Or only some or few? Recall you showed at least one large cent with overstruck stars of a different type still detectable.

The 1796 large cent was proven to be struck over a cull large cent. The 1806 half cents (4 of them) were tested and had large amounts of zinc in them, possibly from an odd melting pot...

Not only ANACS. As far as i recall ALL of the top TPG"s have certified these as genuine. Excluding CACG because they are new to the scene and these counterfeits go back well over 10 years.

I have not seen this counterfeit in either a PCGS or an ICG slab. I agree with the 10 year time frame but one passed a TPG recently, and once I have this ANACS example in hand and see the cert # I will see when it was certified.

Not sure if it’s a trick question/counterfiet because it’s @burfle23 but if not, the coin actually looks really nice to me !

I'd have been duped! I don't specialize in Half Cents... thus, I'd have been more reliant on the TPG to catch a fake.
Thanks for sharing!!

are we sure anacs didn't get fooled too?

Looks very nice. CF? Let’s have Anacs weigh in curious what they would say.

the below means ebay nuked the listing, which it did
Nuked listing images; seller stated he is taking it to his "coin store" for verification:
