Set Registry Cert Removal problems

I have a Franklin half dollar that I bought at auction. Once I received it, I tried to add it to my set, but it was already part of someone else’s set, so I requested its removal. After several days, I submitted the required pictures of the coin, just as I’ve done in the past, but the request was denied for some unknown reason this time. Since then, I’ve tried to add it a couple more times, but because it was rejected once, it won’t send another email request or let me progress any further. I’ve submitted a web request, emailed pcgssetregistry@collectors.com, and called and left a message, but I haven’t received any response to my attempts to contact someone about the issue.

At this point, it seems I’ve hit a wall. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong or what the problem is. It’s also the last coin I need to complete the set, which makes it even more frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Am I doing something wrong? Is there any way to get this fixed?

This message board/forum is filled with tons of identical reports. One reasonable workaround is available, if you're dealing with an NFC-encoded slab, you can add it via the mobile app's "Scan NFC" function - it bypasses the 'human' step within PCGS, by having its own verification that the physical coin is in your physical possession. IF the coin is in an NFC holder (I think all relatively recent PCGS holders have it) you've got probably 95% chance of it adding correctly, immediately. (there's been an odd case or two where it hasn't detected the coin, for whatever reason.

I was afraid of that :( Unfortunately, this coin is in an older non-NFC holder

Can you post a picture of the coin slab (both sides) and maybe someone here can help resolve your issue?
Make sure your picture shows the cert# and bar code clearly.
Have you tried to verify the Cert# using Pcgs's cert verification app?
Sometimes this process will list the exact set the coin is in and hopefully the owner's name, but it might also state that it is in a private users set which is no help.
    It's worth a shot.
    Best of luck.

can you show us the pictures of slab/coin?

I had troubles a few years ago, after a month customer service finally told me it had been reported stolen and return to where I bought it for refund.

  • Thanks everyone, I just got a response from pcgssetregistry and it's been resolved! They said the first time I submitted pictures the cert # was a little blurry, but they were able to take another look and release the coin.

I did use the cert verification app, and also used the set registry app to add the coin originally. That may have been part of the issue actually, because I recently noticed since I got a new phone that the in-app camera doesn't focus at all, and you have to hold the coin at a specific distance in order to get a clear picture. So probably a bit of operator error involved with this one lol. Thank you to the customer service for reaching out and getting it squared away though!

The photo function on the PCGS app is absolute trash. The zoom function is completely feral. And somehow, the app's photo function seems to be the only format that the digital albums seem willing to accept without distorting. It is however comforting and something of a relief to see more and more customer support issues being solved within reasonable timeframes - that is a noticeable, and noteworthy change. Glad they were able to get your issue handled
